Guys,

originally the roundel on the back of our coupes was a 2 piece item (with a 3rd piece gasket) - 51141813833 / 51145780171 + 72

now its a 1 piece - 51141872327 - this is the smooth version like what would be on an e12.

i presume that the original was a raised letter unit. the 171 + 172 pieces are still available from BMW according to tischer.

any thoughts or knowledge on the subject?

I thought the new one piece ones are now raised? A while back they were smooth but heard they changed. Maybe wishful dreaming on my part.

What I 've experienced with roundels...

5 years ago I decided to change my front and back roundels.
Original mounting was this one (Front and back) gasket-socle-emblem.

I tried to buy new emblems by BMW dealer and was given following "integrated" socle-emblem..

But the curve of the "integrated trunk" item did not fit correctly the shape of the beauty.
I then decide to buy the universal raised-letter emblem (right on pic..) 51 14 5 081 747.

I had to insist by the dealer, as both integrated items were bought on the latter ref !!!! (see pic where you have one front integrated and single universal emblem, under same ref)...
There can not be 3 same ref for 3 different items...
I think this must have been a bit confusing for dealers for a while...
This is the solution, I suggest you...

Marc..
PS / What is this item 9 on the parts catalogue, with its center hole, that seems to go on the trunk ??????

9 is the base and 8 is the plastic gasket

Steve,

thank you for that link ... i searched rear roundel ... but that one was titled hood roundel.

i did a search on realOEM for the 833 part number (raised roundel part number that deQ said was available). the answer is, it has been superseded. the new part number is
51141872327 ... which is the slick faced rear roundel

deQ, if your local dealer has a raised letter rear roundel ... i would love to get one ... money ready to send.

Thx for info Steve, but..this really puzzles me

I think plastic gasket goes under the base, not between roundel and base. That 's the way, I have always seen it, on all european coupés I 've met..
German ETK says for item 8 "Unterlage fur sockel" which means "UNDER gasket for base" and not "UBERlage" and 9 is "sockel"--(base).....
Another mis-represented item in the very part of the ETK ?. (Like this single-holed item 9 ?)
or
Have I missed something this whole time ????

For RSPORSCHE , if you're only looking for trunk emblem "raised letter", the P/N is the one I gave, the same as in the BMW on line shop : 51 14 5 081 747. Available
If you don't have the "rear" single base.
I offer it to you !!!

51 14 5 081 747.

Marc

You're correct, it goes under the base, it is mixed up in the picture, not uncommon, the water pump/fan diagram is mixed up also.

Marc,

according to realoem + penske, the 747 is the front roundel ... not the rear. the 833 / 327 parts are the rear roundel.

another riddle

Here are the info on the BMW in line ETK for France.
Item 6 and 7 are represented as BMW emblems on the drawing BUT
n° 7 (rear)is called "plaquette de couvercle de coffre" whick has nothing to do with "emblem".
More over the price (half in euros).
06
Emblème BMW 51 14 5 081 747 40,29
07
PLAQUETTE DE COUVERCLE DE COFFRE 51 14 1 813 833 22,13

I think this later P/N is the integrated emblem-base item for boot.
This price difference appears also on the Jaymic ETK.(both roundels-base integrated).

http://www.jaymic.com/shop/parts_CS_products.asp?grp=CSCRE

As I did it with no trouble, if you have the bases, there is no problem fitting first ref front and back.

But the day you have item ....833 in hands , tell me how it looks like !!

Marc

conclusions, the 833

IT IS ALUMINIUM WITH RAISED LETTERS
IT IS NOT A SINGLE PLATE OF THE EMBLEM, IT INCLUDES THE SHAPE TO MATCH THE TRUNK, SO THIS PART IS NUMBERS 7 and 9 together (be aware of the mistake in the drawing, as 8 is the gasket)
the gasket 8 is NLA

here are the pics:

a very good match to the original old style one: (they are the same size, consider that objects closer to the camera appear a bit bigger)

BTW: the dealer, mistakenly, ordered 2 ítems, I have bought only one for rsporsche, but if anyone is in need of the second unit i will be happy to buy it for him and ship it worldwide

thanks SOOOOOO much deQ ... looking forward to seeing it. no idea why BMW NA has substituted this part with the 327 (smooth BMW) part

I would like to upgrade my smooth roundel to the 833 part you have acquired. If it is still available, please let me know. If not, please keep me in mind the next time you have an opportunity to acquire one.

sorry, mine is NOT available. you might check with deQ to see if there are more in Europe.

I wasn't angling for yours (I still feel a little bad about the Weds), just hoping more raised letter roundels might be available.
