Super cool E9 Hatchback

Love wagons. It the reason I recently picked up a P1800ES. Totally impractical, the wagon bed height is seriously compromised. Rear hatch is the best though. The Swede's nick name for the car?....Snow White's coffin. Yep.

Really like the E9 concept. BTW an Aston Martin DB6 shooting brake conversion sold for $500K in Monterey last weekend. Not nearly as elegant as the E9 image.

Perhaps instead of the metallic c pillar maybe try a hoffmeister kink there as is currently on the coupe then keep the added rear kink? Might keep the coupe's lines intact and look cool.

Hi Steve,
I was / am an industrial designer
If this was a real project, one would expect at least 50 idea sketches before down selecting to a hand full and refining
This was just for fun, so if I have some time I might do a few more

You would need about a 10 HP electric motor to get that rear window to go up and down.

i tend to like the last two the most as well ... the 2nd to last one is a little like a volvo 240 wagon ... very literal + boxy, but keeps all of the coupe lines in tact. something in between the last 2 might be interesting, start from the back of the roof line and create a hatchback that ends into a low trunk wing / lip

I thought I would try some of the ‘looks’ you will see if you do a Google image search on shooting brake, such as 365 GTB/4 with the wrap around rear glass
In general, I don’t think some of these work very well on the E9 because the greenhouse is so tall
Also looking at the first few I made, it looks like the aft end is to visually heavy, makes sense, you take a coupe and add the aft green house, now it is out of proportion
So I moved the rear wheel back (the last 2)
I it seems the forum software scales the uploaded image down
I put them all in one to make it easier, but I will up load the last 2 individually
They are still not very high resolution, I drew these over the one Gordon posted
