But then most I see are yellow?

Yes, they are NK coupe lenses. I had a set when I first got my coupe project, but they, along with many other parts, grew feet and walked away. I liked them but the amber lenses look much better against the Taiga paint.....

my late 2800cs will have red turn signal lenses - will look much better with the black color. wish i had a perfect right side unit.

the number - first 50 is approximate. don't forget there are probably more than 50 as there would be a quantity for automatics and 4 speed cars.

The tail light lens project continues and replacement lenses looking like a real possibility soon! According to the guy I have making them, they are being shipped to me now. You will be able to buy all tail light lenses and the turn signals in amber or red.

The delay was in the fine tuning of the mold. The first batch came out looking beautiful but they just didn't fit right. I sent him a set of frames to play with and that is how they got done.

I will post pictures as soon as I get the final samples.

For those who would like a monochromatic look to the tail/brake lights/turn signal lights, it is easily done. The tail light of my Porsche 928 GTS had a yellow portion that was nearly 50% of the quite large tail light. That contrast did not suit my eye (or of a few other owners).

An owner in the Dallas TX area was the first to change his to monochrome. The procedure is: Clean the turn signal area very well, either mask it well, or remove the turn signal lens. Spray the lens with Testor model paint. I found that to match mine, very thin coats alternating between 'candy apple red' and 'hot rod red' gave a perfect match to the color of the brake/tail light lens. This is an enamel, so if it needs to be removed, enamel paint thinner will remove it without damaging plastic.

I will probably change the color of my 3.0 CS lenses this winter.

Seriously? I've always thought of red turn signal lenses as poor choice next to the obvious signal that yellow lenses send. American cars mostly have red turn signals, perhaps the exoticness of foreign cars appealed to me when I was young. But I believe that anything you can do to send a clear and unambiguous signal to the driver's behind you about your intentions is good.

Red > Yellow.

My $0.02.

Notice no one since 1998 has built a car with yellow lenses. If they did, most owners replace them w/red or clear.

great news Stan,

i have a perfect chrome housing ready to try a fit of lenses ... have to remember which side it is. hopefully it is the right side as i have a perfect left side (NOS) with red turn signal lens

if they fit right, this will be what everyone should do for their coupe if you have good chrome ... otherwise, you will want to remove the lenses and rechrome them. having personally seen and held the repro lenses in March, along with Stevehose, Scott Crater, Gary Beck and Don Bower at Amelia Island ... the quality and finish was excellent. if they have perfected the fit, we will be in business.

thanks for dogging this one Stan!

Stan,

any guestimate when the first samples will be in, would love to try them out like i did for the first samples. i as still interested in some full sets, possibly both with red and amber turn signal. i will try to figure out what i need so i can also fix the old ones i have too

Stan,
How many sets are you getting made? How much will each full set (both sides, three lenses each) cost??

Doug,
Remains to be seen. If the set I get are indeed perfect I will ask for pre-manufacture orders and probably get a few more than that number.
I think if memory serves $200 a side? Don't hold me to that...need to get a final from the manufacturer.
