If this really is a CSL someone should message this guy and track down the body. Not that it couldn't have been replaced, but did CSL's ever come with a white headliner?

Gottlieb: As far as I can tell by the VIN it was a CSL.

Not aware of white headliner

There are no absolutes with CSLs, but black headliners seem common to all, embossed in a special pattern.

What is the VIN?

I doubt this is a CSL.

Does he have the other parts?
Hood, trunk lid, black sun visors, seats, carpet, steering wheel, 14 inch date coded wheels, etc etc.

Well, the panels that are aluminum are the ones missing....

That's even more sad than the broken-in-half Inka CSL that surfaced on eBay in Northeast Ohio a few years back.

It was a sad story for CSL #221136. I helped Harvey bring it home when it was still a solid car(1991-92). Harvey and I worked together at Dave Walter BMW in Akron.
See 1st picture with the former military guy who brought it to the US. That is how it looked when Harvey brought it home. Unfortunately, Harvey let it sit and rot - his health was declining so his focus was not on the car.

Thankfully Arthur Ported saved it and its enjoying a new life on the track.

So...ummmm... which one, if any, is authentic, and which one(s) is/are/mighthavebeen created later? The introduction of the "VIN plate on another shell" has me wondering.

Thx for posting.
Pics of the original owner sloggin though the muck hillclimbing are great.

Unlikley to see an L getting hooned like that these days.
Neat story.
