Yesterday morning was gloomy. Not only was it raining on the day of the big meet and greet, but after the joy of getting my new little starter installed, yesterday I knackered the threads in a hole in my intake manifold and this was not yet fixed.

As the morning faded, the clouds broke and the sun began to peek through. I repaired the intake manifold, reinstalled the carbs, buttoned up and filled the cooling system, and hooked up the fuel line.

Wayne, Doug and I had made a plan to meet and have dinner with our wives to get to know each other better before traveling to California together. And to get our cars together for the first time. It occurred to me that I should have volunteered to host the gathering to ensure that my car was actually there.

But then, early in the afternoon, the sun shone brightly, choirs of angels broke into song and Annabelle fired up for the first time. Twenty months, triple Webers, auto to 5 speed, replaced the entire cooling system, front suspension and rear springs, most of the electrical system, tii brake booster, 123 dizzy, etc., etc., and now she finally runs with the setup I intend to keep.

After taking a minute to thank the Car Gods for their beneficence, I informed my wife we would need to take coats with us because my windows mysteriously do not work and off we went. Dinner was outstanding. Good food, great company and a beautiful evening:

Congrat's on Annabelle getting on the road. So glad you could all get together. Hope to see you at The Vintage in Asheville. Maybe we can get together for dinner like last year. Safe travels and may the car gods continue to smile on you.

Webers behaved themselves pretty well, but they are still a work in progress. I have a little initial on-throttle hesitation and she's still a little rough.

Oh, and my wife asked me "is it always going to be this loud." (No, it will be quieter once I get the windows rolled up.)

Drew -- We are planning on the Vintage again this year; dinner would be great.

congrats, lovely photos
can you tell please what kind of blue is that one ?

Hi deQuincey -- the blue coupe belongs to e9Wayne. Hopefully he'll jump in here and provide more background, but it is a 1972 3.0 CS like mine (sort of). Wayne bought the car when he lived in CA, and when he had some mechanical difficulties Murray Fowler talked him into keeping it. I don't recall who did the cosmetic work, but sfDon did his engine. High compression euro M30 with a Megasquirt engine management system.

Nice!

Great shots, great day, so happy to see the little beast on the road, I bet she was a different ride than when we took her for her maiden run to Starbucks down here in Austin. I love all three of the cars in your shots, the different configurations and different wheels and colors-very cool. I hope they let you park together at the restaurant, would have made a good photo op. Drew from Houston and I got together for the Moto GP and I stole a couple of shots.

Chris, et al,
Thanks for the post with the pix. Sounds like spring has not yet 'sprung' full time in the central Atlantic area. It is very cold for these calendar dates here in southeast FR.

Chris - those black grilles look MUCH better on your car than they did on mine. Sure you all will have a great time at Monterey. Wish the timing had been right for me this year.

Happy driving.

Yes, Gary and you will note I do not have your black (or any other) windshield wipers on the car right now, both because I cannot decide what color I want and because I was more worried about getting her to run.

No wipers, windows didn't work, no heater fan, gas filler door missing, rear bumper off, no front plate bracket, no air cleaner, a/c partially disassembled, window washer reservoir and pump out, trunk elephant skin hanging in the garage, Weds still in the basement without proper tires, third brake light not installed, no radio, no speakers even if I had a radio, light onto heater controls not working, gauges wired but not installed, but...

She ran, got us to dinner and got us home!

the monterey E9 bonding begins, or at least gets to second gear

Yes, a good time was had by all including our wives!

The photo op session before dinner, and too much wine, was most interesting as nearly everyone who drove by us slowed to a crawl probably thinking some TV commercial or somesuch was going on.

Chris has done miracles with his car and seeing his underhood handiwork with those beautiful carbs gives my fuel injected megasquirt set up a run for the money!

Here's a photo of the guys by their mounts with my Nachtblau/Lotus car in the garage. Surely, the biggest increase to my home's resale value it has ever seen what with three E9s on the tarmac.

Our forth room mate, Stan, was too many miles north of us but he will be part of our team in Monterey in our lovely Carmel rental!

Wayne
