Coupsters Prep for Monterey

Yesterday morning was gloomy. Not only was it raining on the day of the big meet and greet, but after the joy of getting my new little starter installed, yesterday I knackered the threads in a hole in my intake manifold and this was not yet fixed.

As the morning faded, the clouds broke and the sun began to peek through. I repaired the intake manifold, reinstalled the carbs, buttoned up and filled the cooling system, and hooked up the fuel line.

Wayne, Doug and I had made a plan to meet and have dinner with our wives to get to know each other better before traveling to California together. And to get our cars together for the first time. It occurred to me that I should have volunteered to host the gathering to ensure that my car was actually there.

But then, early in the afternoon, the sun shone brightly, choirs of angels broke into song and Annabelle fired up for the first time. Twenty months, triple Webers, auto to 5 speed, replaced the entire cooling system, front suspension and rear springs, most of the electrical system, tii brake booster, 123 dizzy, etc., etc., and now she finally runs with the setup I intend to keep.

After taking a minute to thank the Car Gods for their beneficence, I informed my wife we would need to take coats with us because my windows mysteriously do not work and off we went. Dinner was outstanding. Good food, great company and a beautiful evening:

Awesome!

Loving it!

There seem to be quite a few Nachtblau's among us. We'll need to get a group shot in Monterey later this year.

Great color.

Agreed. Makes me kind of miss my old Nachtblau paint...

Dude, that color you put on your car is fabulous. When last I saw it, it was freshly painted with only a small test area buffed out. I'm looking forward to the Vintage and seeing the finished product. I may even have your bumper on my car by then.

Absolutely, i will send you a pic to bring my coupe there too!
Oh, you might have the calendar already April is finshing now...

I have that calendar hanging on the entrance to my garage from the house and your car is an inspiration.

I am drawn to your car because I like the things you have done to it, you do lots of your own work and you are careful and methodical. And of course, that fact that you pause, take pictures, document your work and post here adds to the enjoyment and gives me hope that I can do some of that stuff too.

Chris.

Much appreciated. I am happy with the new color, but nachtblau looks soooo good. Sporty, sophisticated, calm and aggressive all at once. And it always looks fantastic with a contrasty interior like saddle...

That shade of blue just fits the design of the car so well.

As to the car being 'finished', don't set that bar too high. Soooo much left to do. All small stuff. But for me the small stuff... A piece to replace here, part to add there... Those things are in many ways infinitely more difficult for me to tackle than say, wholesale bodywork and respray. But I have 3 weeks yet. We'll see where we get.

Looking forward to seeing, and hearing your coupe as well. Will be good to be in the company of other coupe owners again.

Richard
