anybody got an idea of what could be utilized to replace the gasket on the lamp holder after it has hardened and become brittle? looking on realoem, this appears to be NLA ... it is a "U" shaped piece that fits over the edge of the lamp holder frame.

thanks in advance for any thoughts

This is what I did. I got this stuff from Lowes/HD:

Then I trimmed off one rib:

Then I epoxy'd it into the channel and taped the curve part where there isn't much channel:

Came out well, unseen from the outside and provides a cushion and watertight seal:

Steve,

i wasn't talking about the lens frame, i have a pair of brand new ones from W+N and a couple of excellent spares for the frames. i am inquiring about the gasket that goes on the lamp holder frame.

Scott; Not the answer you were looking for, but my compliments to Steve for a well described solution with perfect pictures...to another problem...!

Scott, are you referring to this seal (see pic), the one on the cover on the inside of the trunk, holding the mirrors and lamp sockets?

I'm interested as well; my seal on the inside of the trunk is a U-shaped one; it's brittle and needs replacement.

W&N lists these, but to me it's unclear wether they are intended for inside, or outside the trunk.

From the pic I can't even make out if the W&N part is a U-shape or not.

Erik.

Erik,

i can help with your question - they go in the outer lens ... as i bought a pair to find out hoping it was for the inside. i might go buy what Steve showed and see if it will work for our lamp holder gasket ... or see if i can find some other generic piece. there has to be something simple that will work.

Hi Scott,

Check your email. I used a square shouldered u-channel gasket. I had to trim it then tack it down. It worked very well.
