Monterey Depression

OK so I have to vent in order to try and work my way out of this depression. As I arrived at the LEGEND event of Friday I initially told my wife that I regretted not registering to display my coupe, but after looking at the other coupes on display I changed my mind and was relieved in knowing that I would have been a mutt mixed in with a group of purebreds. The signs of depression were already starting to appear. The hard to find wheels, the beautiful woodwork and leather and all the swirl free paint. Now I begin to sweat when I remember that my coupe would be parked in the corral with all the E9's at Festronics.
As I park at Laguna Seca on Sat. and start looking at the other coupes I comment to my wife on all the great paint jobs. My dear wife who knows nothing about vintage cars and all the blood, sweat and tears that go hand in hand with owning one says you should be happy.....yours is the only one in Amazon Green and yours is still the original paint.....Depression has now totally taken hold and I am now calculating how to secretly change part of my retirement fund to the "coupe fund" in order to fend off having to go see a "shrink".
So, as I move on and work at fighting off this depression I will use the visions of all those beautiful coupes I saw to inspire me to keep pushing forward. SO MANY GREAT COUPES!!!

Hi Glen,

I wish I was there to share in the misery. However, I think that your wife has the right idea. I would take comfort in knowing that just about every coupe owner was probably envious of some random part that the owner next to him managed to source for his or her coupe. It's all relative! Personally, I think it is refreshing to see survivor cars as well as incomplete projects.

Well, that was the biggest group of e9s in one place in decades, literally. And many great ones were there. The best of the best.

Very nice that owners of coupes were there to share them for the rest of us. My own coupe was at home back east. I saw two of many of BMWPetes cars on the lawn today at Pebble, the first ever for an e9 at Pebble Beach. Pete had 3 race cars at the track, plus an M1 (and more) for all of us to see, hear, and enjoy. Steve Walker also had his race e9 at the track and shared the story of its discovery in Italy with me. And the restoration work done by owner/enthusiasts like Mike Berger, Terry Conners, Sven, etc is fantastic. It is wonderful that we have an e9 community that shares the fun. That's what it is all about.

A car can never be perfect (thanks to the law of entropy) but the process of learning about the car, hunting down random parts, networking with others is all part of deal.

And here they are:

The finality of putting Annabelle on a truck home and confronting the fact that I too must leave was the only thing remotely depressing about this week.

Well, I was there, but wish I could have met more Forum members. I did meet many at the Thursday evening social courtesy of Tim and Chris. Amazing! I certainly expected to see more folks at LOTA, but it was such a HUGE show everyone was so spread out to take in all that was there to see. I did meet Peter once more on Saturday at the track. Bumped into him at the Hunziger booth. I believe he was looking for a Stetson with the Laguna Seca logo on the front. Peter I don't think they make one like that, but stay positive my friend!
Mike

Cheer up, I showed up to the event a day late and in the wrong car. That sums up my life.
Had some wine at Tim's place and hit back on 1 and 17 against traffic in 5th gear all the way home.

I dropped by today at 1:15 and found the door open and nobody home, what did you do with them?

I kidnapped Don and I asked BMW Classic for ransom.
Unfortunately they replied with the Danny DeVito line when they kidnapped his wife (Bette Midler): "Keep her!".

There were so many E9 guys (and a few gals) I met and yet somehow I missed a few!
This event could not have happened without a lot of hard work from a dedicated core!
Thanks to Chris, Wayne, Paul, the Macha family and everyone else who worked for the last year + to orchestrate this magnificent event!

If peter wants a Stetson with the Laguana Seca logo I will ask my neighbor, who is the west coast distributor for Stetson.
Worth a shot.
Thanks to all that have shared their great pics of the event.
We live vicariously thru the exploits of others.
