BMW 64511356020 A/C fan speed switch

Mine is cracked and fell apart in my hands. Need a replacement.

Last one made was in 1994....
There is a workaround using a new 3 position switch with two resister coils
I think best to omit the hidden coil in the evaporator box

I have a good one that I'm sending to Don, and one that fell apart also. Can yo post pics of the problem areas on yours? I'll look at my bad one. Maybe you can build a Frankenstein switch with it.

Is there a major benefit to the workaround vs just digging up a used one?

The brassish threaded thing was loose and came off. Thus opening the whole top and then two ball bearings and a spring popped out. It was a good time.

Yeah same here if I recall. Working on the final stages of my AC removal this evening so let me grab some pics.

Horrible design
They all go bad
No used ones here or coupeking
Maybe Carl

Wow! No replacement available from Volvo Mercedes or different bmw etc?

What is so special about the switch? Can't use one from another car?

Is it a 3 or 4 terminal (+ polarizing pin) A/C blower switch?

I may have one. I bought it for my 2800 CS and it was the wrong one. I will try to find it and see if it looks like yours.

As many things with this car there are certain things I just replace if easy ... or learn a whole new set of skills if rebuilding.

I rebuilt my VDO clock from random parts off of other clocks since there was no (price competitive) option.

So I guess I'm going to have to acquire knowledge on 3/4 terminal polarizing pin switches ......

No dice on mine either. The one I'm sending to Don has a nice post on it but the whole mechanism is a loose. The other one is nice and tight but somebody ground the post down to fit a different knob. I'll be sending both to him since he gave me a pile of digital cash for my AC setup. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I have an extra that is apart if you need it ok
ill assembly and post the pic

Looks like I have the elusive switch, but has a crack in the ceramic part fixed with gorilla glue,in working order, tested and cleaned the rote-stat.

I was able to rebuild the switch with some crude engineering. Will post on how I did it soon.

Thanks all for the help.
