For those that have experimented with different brands and grades of tranny oil, how did you like Red Line MTL in a four speed?
Thanks

Oops, wrote that on my phone. Title should say GEAR oil. I have a couple of bottles of MTL from long ago, guess I'll throw it in.

Just checked my bottles and noticed the seal was broken on both of them.
The liquid in the bottles looks like atf..
My gut feeling is that I put MTL in my e36 gearbox many years ago and kept the D4 tranny oil in case I wanted to switch back. Ooh well, guess I'll throw this out and start again.

MTL looks a lot like ATF.

I've run MTL in my 2002 for several years.

One of the BMW 2002 gurus who rebuilds Getrags for a living uses hypoid 85/140 two parts to one part ATF in the Getrags. I used his cocktail in the 2000CS and so far so good.

don't trust anything with a broken seal
I agree. Just found a local Mazda dealer that stopped carrying Redline, but had a few bottles left at a decent price.
Pretty sure that it is MTL in the bottles I put a few thousand miles on then switched to BMW's fill for the E36. This is going back to 2004.
As I recall the MTL was more notchy when cold than the D4 ATF in the E36 and the BMW branded stuff was better than both.
In 6 speed Miatas, for Synthetic Gearbox oil from Germany works best.
Interesting stuff this gear oil.
