Started using Duplicolor medium gray on trunk panels but it is a bit darker than original. You guys have got me thinking about switching to SEM storm gray...is it concourse close or just close?

Also I have the rear skin that goes around the taillights etc with board totally gone. Was thinking of using thin MDF and two pieces, one for lights and one across trunk latch. Any experience with MDF and is the skin a decent enough template?

I think it is concours close but also it goes on the best of any otc spray paint I've found

I have never seen SEM at O'Reilly's, but not a frequent customer. I go to the auto paint store. They have the best selection of colors. I used SEM for my interior 7 years ago and still looks brand new.
MDF is not what I would use. It absorbs moisture greatly and will twist and turn , and need to be re-done soon. Have not heard of a replacement material for door cards.
I am sure someone will have a better answer for this material. Which is a thick and compressed paper product.

Agree. A general auto parts store like O'Reilly could never stock all of the colors that SEM comes in. An automotive paint store is the place to go.

The link that E911 posted in #4 makes good reading even if you don't buy your SEM from repaintsupply.com. Lots of valuable information about surface preparation.

deQuincey originated a thread in 2011 about re-making these panels - see: http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/threads/rear-bonnet-interior-trim-renewal.10012/

Any auto parts store like O'Reilly or Carquest et al that carrys an sku of SEM can order storm grey and it takes a day or 2 to get. My auto paint store has lots of SEM colors (including the satin which I load up on) but does not stock storm grey.

i buy SEM color coat from summit racing, they do carry storm grey. good price too.

Rob, send me your email address and i will send you a large format pdf that you can take to kinkos and print (36 x 60) and you will have 2 full drawings of the rear panel (in 2 pieces) ... i will also send my instructions of how i made it.

No it is a substitute for the elephant skin color in the trunk on the panels and tool box.

Whoever painted my parts car thought that Polaris was a good substitute for the elephant skin color. :D I'll be buying a few cans of storm grey to remove the massive amounts of over spray.
