Can I get some suggestions for steering wheels and sources for my car. This is current configuration. I've seen and like Nardi. I have one on my 2002tii. Seems they don't have a BMW centre symbol. That's certainly not insurmountable. Prices seem to vary a lot. I prefer the look of a dish shape. I'd welcome some input please.

that wheel is an italvolante, but it is missing the center pad. hard to get as a separate piece.

my favorite is the Petri, either the 38cm or the 40cm. the downside is they have become expensive and the metal condition can vary, in addition there are leather covered petri wheels (CSL and hard to find) but most of them are a cast rubber with leather texture. the nardi has several variants and 2 appropriate sizes 39 cm and 36 cm (the 36 is almost too small) - wood w/ polished metal, wood with black metal, black leather with black metal, black leather with satin metal. with the RHD wood grab rail, i like the black steering wheel. in addition the nardi wood color and the RHD wood dash can be off color-wise.

i recommend a search, many different threads, including the "show your dashboard" may help
not sure what is the problem here, those seats make room for all modern variants of steering wheels, the limit is your imagination, and yes, there is another issue about the spline of that steering rod that might limit your choices
petri, nardi, italvolante, even the alpina momo is a possibility, and the original factory wheel too,...
search "show your dashboard"
 
As for me this Italvolante is pretty good choice for this black Recaro (not sure) sport seats. Italvolante was mounted in CSL's in past, so it also historically proper steering wheel for E9. You can always put additional small BMW Motorsport sticker (as below) if you like to.
As for me E9 best steering wheels:
1. Petri Motorsport 38 / 40
2. Alpina Momo Prototipo 38
3. Italvolante (as yours)
4. Alpina Momo 4-spoke 38

Agreed that black leather works in your car.
Other options.

1. 350mm stacked prototipo
2. 390mm '80's leather Nardi
3. 380mm BMW Motorsport (M1/M535i)
4. 380mm Early Momo A38 (early four spoke Alpin, no horn pad)

Please tell us more about your digital display on the dash wood.

I have a roundel at the center of the Nardi wheel on my e9 that I think I got from Crowders Customizing a few years ago. However, I have to admit that today, the horn button page on the Crowders site shows them with just about every manufacturers' logo except BMW . A quick ebay search on "bmw nardi button" came up with one - offered by none other than Crowders Customizing. Go figure! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nardi-Steer...ash=item210d864c02:g:pBMAAOSwonxXEWDy&vxp=mtr The price is kind of exorbitant: $125 for just the button.

Thanks for all this great feedback. Now I'm currently in Mallorca and after going to Brooklands next weekend I'll go to Melbourne to sort getting the car back to Sydney. My sons and a BMW professional inspected the car prior to purchase so don't tell anyone but I haven't actually seen her. I just had to pay. I'm well aware of things like the seats and I'll make a decision on them some time down the track. They don't sit well with my ideal on originality but I'm assured they are sensational to sit in. If I had my way I might stoop to a set of CSL seats that I think are just the best seats I've ever sat in. Regarding the digital display, here's a better photo but more than that I have no idea at the moment. I'll tell you more when I know more......

wow i am in mallorca too ! departing today, though :-(

seats will fit the purpose in terms of performance, original csl seats would be a difficult search, and a painful one too...

you have more trapped things in there, the digital display is very classy, ok, but you have a fake AC system too, check the odd cutting of the central console lateral panels, and the two odd knobs left side of the steering wheel

IMHO your italvolante fits well, and you can easily add a bmw badge as vladek show in his thread

A petri 380mm as on CSLs (if u can find one , and in good condition can be $1200 US) That was the option for a CS/CSi.. Nardis are popular because of the difficulty of finding/payng for a petri..... Brand New "real" 380mm Nardis can be up to $1000 US as well... I have an original OEM wheel as fitted from the factory if u are interested... I can send you a picture if you wish
 
also u can get bmw horn centres for nardi (I have had a Nardi with a genuine bmw centre / horn button) but again they are rare and expensive.. $300 US, on top of the standard Nardi wheel price...

There are two types of Nardi horn centers. The going rate on the prettier (IMO) button is around $150 USD. There is one on Ebay but I'm a cheap bastard. I'll buy a Nardi and sell the wheel just to get a cheaper horn button.

I had the "type B" and it had a cover piece that goes over the mounting allen head screws... mybe I was charged more because ot this "extra " piece... also it was brand new
