I dissembled my coupe before mobile phone images were clear (and easily downloadable), so... I'm stuck with a bag of labeled parts (yay) but I don't recall where the brackets are mounted to secure the steering column underpad.

I've searched the forum, Google, etc. pretty pictures but no reference images, not even on realoem. Help? Any one have images of the original set up? Thank you in advance.

Hi Roger,

Now that pictures are a quick and dirty thing, can you snap some pics? Let us know if you need help uploading them to this thread. If you have a smartphone, you can upload them directly from your phone.

Set up a photobucket account for the last iteration of this board and had the hardest time getting pictures to embed. I've shied away since, opting to send images by text, email or iMessage to anyone that needed a reference photo, etc.

Blah, blah, blah. I will try again as I have photo documented my projects to share as it might help others the way I've benefitted from pictorial posts.

Roger,

You can upload a file directly to the forum. See the screenshot below:

The bracket pictured is used on both the left and the right side. The car I dissembled that had these labeled parts was from an automatic but I don't think it makes a difference for the sides of the console.

I'm trying to do a cleaner or OEM reassembly of the left (driver) side console to the attachment points on the steering column under pad (scup). I've seen many just screw the SCUP to the console panel but considering that I have the brackets, I would like to do it the right way. Any help would be appreciated.

doesn't make a difference on auto vs. manual tranny. they go on the firewall end of the console sides (under the side vents) to secure the back end of the console sides.

Thanks for the reply, Scott. My console sides were recovered and foam placed underneath the vinyl. I cannot feel any prior holes toward reinstall the bracket and how it relates. I'm a visual person with cars. I don't care to put punch holes in the vinyl searching for it, which is why I asked for a reference picture. Can you post a reference picture(s)?

Markos, thanks again for advising me of the update to the forum re posting pictures. I felt like I was drowning in 5' of water and a friend suggesting I stand up...

here is a pic of where this piece goes and which side fits to which ... the photo is upside down ...

Hi Scott -- I believe I am missing both of those brackets. To what do those brackets attach?

they attach to the back of the evaporator if i remember correctly or to some of the mounting hardware. unfortunately i do not have any spares of them.

I don't recognize the brackets either but I don't doubt their function. I'm guessing that they are upside down. If you mounted them the way shown, the brackets would hang down under the console sides
near the transmission tunnel.

I'm probably wrong but my guess is that they are rotated 180 degrees, and attach to the evap support bracket. You access them by removing the console side vents.

Here is the evap support bracket:

those slotted holes at the back of the evaporator bracket is where they mount ... if i am not mistaken. remember, the brackets as shown would only be visible between the end of the console side and the firewall ... they wouldn't hang down

So this post now begs the question of purpose. If it attaches to the sides of the console and the evaporator, it does not tie into the steering column underpad cover. Toward simplifying this discussion, and, please correct me if I'm wrong, the purpose of the brackets is to help secure the rears of both console sides?

Lastly, does anyone have any images of the driver side console mounted to the right side of steering column underpad support, i.e., those three brackets in the profile picture of the same. They were on both my coupes and not previous owner modifications. I'm trying to tidy up and close up.

Thanks.

Scott, correct they hold the very back of each side console to secure it, otherwise only the screws on the side of the console hold the console in place. Recently did this with the radio replacement.

Hi Roger,

You had two questions. The first was "What are these brackets for". Those were quickly identified as center console brackets.

You also want to know how to secure the lower dash pieces. It is my understanding that the "L" shaped brackets screw right into the side of the center console sides. You have the brackets already, they are secured to the lowe dash pads. Take a look at your console sides and you should see the existing holes.

I think it secures right here:

The far left side has the round pulley looking piece. this is the roller for a metal loop that serves as a fuse box door stop. I'll post a pic.

The round piece on the left side is for this:

I think Markos is correct; that bracket on the lower dash piece (that has a screw in it) is used to secure the bottom of the dash piece to the firewall.

After looking again, the console would sit way too low if you flipped the brackets 180 degrees. I'm just surprised to see how low they hang below the console bottom.

Thank you, guys. I figured out the fuse panel cover side but the evaporatot brackets threw me for a loop. I couldn't figure if or how they related to the L brackets on the "SCUP."

Mark ... they aren't hanging below the bottom of the console sides ... they either stick out past the back of the console sides ... or they flip around and mount behind the side grilles. my car isn't here so i can't go look
