Right Side View Mirror?

If you wanted a passenger side mirror the dealer would sell and install it for you. That is the Trapezoid mirror which originally came on you coupe unless you had electric mirrrors on the late 74 coupes. Be sure you buy the passenger side, the are handed as they say, L and R.

IMHO...passenger side mirror does not serve any useful purpose with the amazing greenhouse in the coupe. I had Mario put one on when i had rust remediation done on 2240171 and I regret it.

Plus you have to worry about knocking it off when parking in a tight garage space.

It was not required in Germany (look at the various models in the ad).

In fact Doug McKenzie didn't even have a driver side mirror on his taiga coupe and it looked amazing. I believe he has succomed to big brother and put one on by now.

My passenger mirror is invaluable for backing out of my garage/driveway gate, and I definitely use it while driving, but I have flag mirrors (allthough I want to go back to traps for the correct look and poor visibility :) )

Plus side to having a hood mounted side mirror (not sure which years that was standard placement location) is that you would be aerodynamic enough to finally race airplanes!!

As a side note, the driver side mirror was installed somewhere near the vent window (some were mounted on the leading edge close to the fender and others were near the rear edge of the vent window) depending on how many beers the guy on the assembly line had that day.

i'm with Steve ... all except the trap mirrors ... damn originality. i had my paint / body guy put on a new flag mirror on the passenger side for exactly the reasons that Steve says. i also find that the original USA location of the trap mirror is hard for me to see out of ... i wish i had the euro location (further to the front of the door). maybe on my next coupe.

Wow. That would be great information. Thank you. I really adore the hood mounted ones. Does anyone have any idea where I could get those and if they were in fact period Correct and original etc. always seemed like there was a better visibility in there then having to turn your head. I think it would look very European.

the fender mounted mirror is a british mirror that was used on the 2000cs. the mirror was made by Talbot. there are real ones for sale as well as reproductions. be aware that real ones are probably around 400 to 500 bucks each. they were originally made with either a flat mirror or a convex mirror.

Bez, the factory workers didn't choose where to mount the driver side mirror, all euro coupes got one at leading edge of door, all US/NA coupes got one near vent window frame. It you saw one in between it has been moved. The trap mirrors don't give much visibility but the flags do and I wouldn't go without my passenger mirror.

Thanks for the info Chris. My flag mirror was replaced with the trapezoid mirror and moved from the US/NA to the Euro location!!!

I assume the trapezoid shape was the original for 03.24.72 production.

Going to look into this and see if I can find one. Have you ever seen a coupe with these on?

Would it be ridiculous to have hood mounted mirrors as well as Sideview mirrors?

That's a late power mirror... I suspect they were all placed back- euro and us.
really. I don't see how to control it electronically at least. Is it too far back? Would I regret putting hood mounted mirrors on instead? I think they look uber cool while appearing to give better visibility too.

Scott, you have a 'flag' mirror ... not an electronic mirror. the post of a BMW ad has an electric mirror on it. the passenger flag mirror is available thru W+N for around 118 euro +/- plus shipping.

no, i wouldn't think of put the fender mirror on and leave the flag mirror on ... kind of like belts and suspenders ... except in this case you will be looking at the flag mirror in the fender mirror. i'm not going to say that there hasn't been a coupe with the talbot mirrors on (other than a 2000 cs) ... but it would be a rare.

i drove my brother's austin healey 3000 a lot and it had the fender mirrors (with convex mirrors) and i liked that you could glance down and see to the side ... but the shape made everything so small that i really hated it. before you invested in them, i would find some british car with them and sit in it and see what you think. IMHO, if you want to improve the visibility out of the flag mirror, i would explore moving it forward to where you look thru the vent window to see it ... the euro position at the front of the door.

OK… So it is decided. I will not get the hood mounted mirrors but I will simply move the Sideview mirrors to do your PM position and add a passenger side version as well. While I am doing it should I replace the square one I have now with a trapezoid or is it preferred to stick with the square for the passenger side. Obviously I will make sure they both match. Thanks so much for all of your help

if you go to the traps, you will have a hard time finding a new one, except a repro ... several places to find those. i would experiment with the position by having somebody hold a mirror while you look at it from the drivers seat. and be sure to experiment with the vent window position. if you get the mirror in the wrong place you can't open the vent window. if you move it to the front of the door you will be looking thru the vent window ... so different angles may make a difference. moving it a few inches closer to the vent window (from its current position) may make a huge difference.
