I plan to paint the air cleaner on my CSi Djet system. Do I need to use a heat resistant paint. Should it be glossy black or ???
Steve

Powder Coat RAL7022 Umbragrau. Steve, do your best to make sure the box is free of dents and any sort of filler. The powder coating will not adhere to body filler unless you use a specific metalized powder coating filler.

FYI - you can use JB-Weld as filler for powder coating. In addition to being readily available - it's equally as strong, sandable, and easy to work with. JB weld holds over 500 degrees. Most importantly, the powder adheres to it...

I have a steady stream of parts going to my powder coater, including two CSI airboxes that will get RAL 7022. I'm going to sell one of them once it's done. Unfortunately he is slow as hell. :D

I tried JB weld and it didn't work when I powder coated my 2002 air filter.

Steve, I got a guy in Ivyland. From the Barn tour summer 2016. Surprised the group is recommending powder coating, I thought regular paint would be OK....

Me too, i had an auto paint store match my original color in a hih quality rattle can and it resprayed beautifully, and made touch up easy since the clips are brutal on the paint.

Illegal to sell RAL7022 in a can in most of California...
The powder coat is really durable too.

Strange. I had read about it but it was my powder coater that recommended it to me. He uses it all the time.
I forget which version of JB Weld I tried.I have an Eastwoods powder gun. For me it didn't adhere to the JB Weld before I put it in the oven. Glad to hear it works though.

I will find out soon. I'm powedercoating the nose that I chopped off of my CSI. I'm going to need a lot of JB Weld. It's an art piece though so no judgement! ;)

My 2 cents, I have had a lot of motorcycle parts powder coated
The guy that did most of them, who was great but unfortunate out of business now, said JB Weld, probably will work, but not always, sort of 60 / 40 maybe
There is a product made just for filling for powder coating but expensive
I did a lot of work filling on various parts and was afraid to have them fail so had them painted
Modern, 2 part epoxy paint is very, very tough, probably close to powder coating
We painted my engine with the best rattle can engine paint we could find, with primer
I had to have the engine rewashed in the heavy duty washer and most of it came off
I had it repainted but by the pro with 2 part epoxy
I had to have it washed again (don't ask) and only tiny bits came off on some edges
