Hi Folks,

My spare head was used on a fuel injected car. They plugged the cam driven pump hole by tapping it and inserting a bolt. I'm assuming that I can no longer use a mechanical pump. I wanted to confirm however. Does the mechanical pump seal via the head face, or is there an o-ring on the pump shaft?

Seals face to face, you could drill it out and install a bronze bushing if sizing matches.

Not sure exactly what you mean but the head does act as the entire bearing surface for the shaft, the fuel pump just bolts over it and the actuator lever presses against the end of the shaft. If the tolerances arent close I would imagine the shaft would wobble and oil would get out.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking/meant. I don't think it is worth sleaving. M30 heads are a dime a dozen. Thanks Steve!!!

The pump has a paper gasket where the pump face meets the head. There's no pressure there since the crankcase is vented, so a thick layer of the proper goop (that didn't later fall off into the engine's innards) ought to seal the mating faces. Isn't the crankcase under slight vacuum, which would preclude leaks?

Markos, gasket maker material from Auto Part store and use the Cover plate I sold you to cover it, it will not leak (Just a suggestion)
