1970 2800CS

Wow good eye Chris! You know I was fascinated enough with the discovery of factory mintgrun e9's to bother you about it. It looks like you may have discovered an even more rare e9 color! It would be good to get your hands on the VIN and have it checked with BMW.

This is Turf according to the site below. It looks stunning and just might be added to the ranks of rare vintage non-metallic e9 colors like Nevada and Bristol. I'm going to attach this image so it doesn't disappear over time...

Cool blog btw...

There is something about the color of this car, Turf, that does not allow it come through in pictures as it truly looks in “the metal”. It is less blue and slightly more greenish.

Turf green looks a bit more green and less blue than here

Overall the car looks pretty solid and very original (minus the respray). Seems well worth the current $27K asking price IMO. I hope a member picks it up as this car would make a perfect scandidate for 100% correct if the color checks out and the engine is a match. Correct me if I'm wrong but those are zeniths poking out from under the air cleaner.

A few other observations worth mentioning.

1. There is 'Turf' overspray on the elephant skin in the trunk by the driver's side rear sidemarker. I'm guessing that some work was done to the car prior to the color change.

2. I suspect that there was minor fire in the engine bay. The strut cap is partially melted, the coolant tank is brand new as is the master cylinder resevoir. The battery is also new although that could be a BHCC thing. The sticker near the melted strut cap looks singed and the whole driver's side inner fender looks like it has soot on it. Also the firewall seal is new and none of the other seals on the car have been replaced. It also looks like the airbox was repainted when nothing else in the engine bay was addressed. Overall I would say that steps were poorly taken to conceal the impact of the minor fire.

My alternator relay wire was fried when I got my car. A good reason to go with the later internally regulated version found on e12s

The engine bay almost looks like Tundra though. That is Luis’ Turf 1800.

Funny I was thinking it looks kind of like Turkis. The engine bays do seem to discolor quite a bit. It seems most apparent on Polris cars. The bays seem to turn to bronzit beige.

i see tundra under that peeling gray paint

There are two viable scenarios.

1. Wrong paint sticker (seems reasonable since there is no record of Turf e9’s)

2. The green overspray in the trunk that I mentioned is when the car went from Turf to Tundra-looking-0-paint. This seems less feasible. Anyone who oversprayed the elephant skin probably didn’t paint the engine bay.

Probably a Tundra coupe with an early Turf sticker.

Yup. I ran the VIN for BHCC with their permission. I obfuscated the VIN below, but I will say that it is one the first 50 US 2800 CS.

Dear Markos,

Thank you for your email.

The BMW 2800 CS US VIN 227xxxx was manufactured on December 19th, 1969 and delivered on the same day to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Tundra metallic, paint code 068.

We hope this information is helpful for you.

Yours sincerely,

Julia Oberndörfer

Never seen an E9 with those lower door rub strips, looks like they're off an E24 or similar?
