so what do you think a perfect 40cm petri is worth ... and do you think an unused one exists

i think it is easier to find a petri 40 than a 38. but you are correct, the correct hub, hub cover and horn button is the tough part. and to my knowledge, they were never sold separately. a leather CSL 38 petri with the long hub + cover is the rarest beast, and that in great shape is north of 2000 gbp ,,, IF you can find somebody willing to part with one. i have heard a rumor of a great 40cm in germany that might come up for sale later this spring ... otherwise you should keep an eye out on ebay.de. pay attention to the quality of the metal and avoid oxidized metal spokes.

Hello to you all, long time no "see".
This is an interesting topic and I would like to respond to a few questions.
The value of a NOS Petri ( non-leather ): My guess is $2000 , judging from my experiences in the last years.
Hex or Phillip, always a discussion. I'm 100% certain that some Petris came with the Hex bolts and some with the Phillip head screws. I can't tell you why, but I think the early wheels had the Phillip screws.
Last but not least: The MOMO Alpina Prototipo S 380 mm has no finger indents ( I'm looking at one right now ).

:-)

Always great to hear from you Hans! One thing I have learned is that one can’t make a black and white assumption about what BMW did or didn’t do with parts. It seems more likely that they used what they had available at the time. :D
