Lan-Engine how to check cyl head leaks, cracks, and so on,...

i do not have to explain this very much, you know it in many situations one may have the doubt if the cyl head has a crack or a leak in the gasket
but to know certainly that this has happened ususally has to be a big leak, in most cases too late

well, there are testers for this,...and i bought one

it tests presence of CO2

Doesn't look like the fluid has changed color … so your VAG. product isn't totaled yet

Don’t forget that if your head gasket leaks only when hot and under high cylinder pressure you might not detect CO2 in the cooling system unless you make a hard run first.

I used to say if significant amounts of coolant are expelled from the system via the overflow tube or if possible nets are disappearing after a high rpm drive then it’s most likely a bad head gasket.

tested yesterday

fantastic, first, checked that the indicator fliud works ok as it is a preowned equipment who knows ?

before, orginal fluid in the two compartments, intensive blue

sensitivity test is very simple, simply breath towards the probe, the breath expelled has CO2enough to make it turn yellow/green

refreshing it with fresh air turns it blue again

and the detector in action, warm engine after a nice drive:

as colour remains blue, means no CO2 in the system
very nice device, the first chamber checks false positive due to alkali compound in exhaust and cleans the gas through bubbling to enter the second chamber
first (lower) chamber turning yellow is NOT a positive
poistive only if yellow in second chamber
