Hi

Anyone can tell me. I have wondering about the windows switch. I’d like to correct them in OEM original. They are different. No.1 is 5 leg, No.2 is 4 leg.

I do attached 2 picture . Witch one is OEM ? 1 or 2 .
Thank so much

Hi,
Both are OEM.
#2 is upto end 1973 early 1974
#1 for face lift cars from then onwards.

Which year is your car? If you aren’t sure, send us some pics of the interior and the VIN

Cheers

What year is your car?
Your top picture is for the early year E9 (early 72 and before)
The bottom picture (the one you marked as “1” is for later model I believe for late 72 and forward !

Later model switches function better and are available new . Early version is no longer available new . The writing is also different for both of these ....

Thank you somuch for the answer.

I looking at the VIN , The number is 2211536 . So She should be 1972. Right ?

Thanks Keshav for corrections. Last time I checked W&N only had one version available !
But one thing I am centain about that 73 model has newer style switches !!! I think it was some time in mid to late 72 that they changed .... so year description on W&N is not accurate ... also I was told the same switches were used by Meecedes and Porsche in late 71 and 72 models !!

You should be correct . But I don’t trust that spreadsheet 100%.
To be sure send an email to:

It is always important to back up your explanations with documentation from the production time otherwise half or complete false information will be propagated as truth. Here is what I have on the subject: First model switches with the rounded frame up to VIN (see below), second model with the flat square frame thereafter.
CS 2213393
CSA 2231938
CSi 2264525
CS-USA 2240634
CSA-USA 2250501
Source: ETK 1975
That would place the change around a January 1973 production date for the CS

The wiring harness is different for each switch, blades for the early switch, pins for the later, which harness do you have?

Has anyone bought one of the older style switches from W&N?

The pic looks like the sides of the top are black (not chrome like the top). Maybe it’s just a shadow but I have been hesitant to order any.

Stevehose's (always terrific) observations regarding the preexisting wiring connections should probably be the best guide as to which style switch to acquire. However, the fact that you evidently have the two different styles in the car suggests that the wiring harness is not all original and includes modifications. Perhaps you can provide photos of the existing electrical connections?

I bought the early switches from AZ Autohaus a while back for $25 each. Bosch and fine quality

I think, to be 100% confident what type of switches are needed, owner need to see what type of motors are mounted on lifting mechanisms:
1. Sardine type motor (case with flat aluminium covers) with separate gearbox = switch #2
2. Motor with plastic case with integrated gearbox = switch "1"; or if later motors (from e28) metal case with integrated gearbox = switch "1"

Two different types of switches in one car might be because of two different types of motors, probably previous owner made an upgrade from manual to power windows on fronts & adapted first best option he purchased.
