I found this interesting door brakes option on the E9 German forum.

Door brakes from a MB 190 (W201). Perfect fit and costs around 15€ or less as opposed to the E30 door brakes which cost 3x. Supposedly last a life time too.

Per the write up, exact fit, except the plastic tube into which the pin is inserted/ A pillar side. The ‘eye’ is narrower and the tube needs to be worked to fit in there.

I borrowed 2 pics.......

Yes, 2002 guys have doing his for a number of years same deal

Right, I think the 2002’s have to shorten the metal strip so the door doesn’t open too wide? But yes, certainly a good option, specially price and fit wise.

There is an aspect of MB part that one must be aware off:
MB 190 Door brake
Door open at pos 1 = 40cm
Door open at pos 2 = 90cm

Compared to
BMW E30 Bremse
Door opening at pos 1 = 70cm
Door opening at pos 2 = 110cm

so here's a question - is the MB arm the same length as the e9 arm? if not, would the e9 door brake arm fit into the MB housing?
here's the 2nd question - is there a difference in the e9 + MB housing catches for the arm to stop.

Had those 3 detent door brakes on my 2002. The detents caused a lot of stress on the pinch weld bracket on the chassis.

Had a broken spring on Athena's driver door when I bought her, pretty sure I replaced it with one from an E28 and had to file the arm a little to fit the pin in the chassis bracket. Looked like this one from W-N: https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/doo...ufacturing-you-need-2-for-1-car-41-19-02.html

FYI, a few years back, Jim at Mesa Performance sold me a door brake from an early E12 (p/n 41511814523). The arm is about 1/2" longer than the original but is otherwise identical. I cut a section out and re-welded to proper length. Works perfect. In fact, I recently bought one for the other side too so I have pictures. They come from the factory with a weld (although only on one side) so I didn't see a need to grind my weld down to flat. I shot it with some Cold Galvanizing Primer after to prevent corrosion. Best part? The E12 brake costs less than $30.

I have 2 of the MB door brakes installed in my 1974 CS Coupe and they fit perfectly and have a much smoother action than any others I have installed. There were no fitting issues and can't imagine why I would use anything else.

I have installed the MB door brakes, too. They work really fine and are cheap.
The only thing is, that the door opening angles are different.
According to German forum:
Mercedes Bremse
-Öffnungsmaß in Raste 1 = 40cm
-Öffnungsmaß in Raste 2 = 90cm
BMW E9 Bremse
-Öffnungsmaß in Raste 1 = 69 cm
-Öffnungsmaß in Raste 2 = 115 cm
..so I welded, too.
Best Regards; Willy

Don't tell MB that we're using them on E9's or they'll raise the price 10x!

You know you have expensive habits when you think Mercedes parts are cheap!

What kind of door brakes does Carl Nelson offer? (see: http://www.bimmerdoc.com/parts-find...3-0700/e9-2800cs30cscsicsl/door-brakes-coupe/ ) I bought a pair of these from Carl years ago and they have worked great, though the La Jolla Independent website now shows them as "Currently Unavailable" and at $95 apiece they are hardly cheap.
