Looking for the expanding element for a 72 CS. Anyone have one or know where I can buy one online? I checked autohausaz, wallothnesch, ecs, eBay, Amazon but no luck.

Part # 13-71-1-252-568
Item #2 shown in the schematic below

nor do you need it in AZ. Just make sure the flap defaults to the fresh air position, not the manifold one

There's plenty of cold weather and snow here to flip the flap. But mainly it's for restoring the unit. Minine no longer expands because its leaking the thermal paste.

Doesn't need to be new. I'll buy an old used one if anyone has it.

Totally get that, just make sure it doesn’t fail in the closed position. I figure the flap is an emissions thing not a helpful startup feature. Engines like cold dense air.

Yeah, it's an emissions component. It redirects warm air to the engine until the expander reaches 25c. Then it opens the flap to ambient air. Cold start/idle emission rates for NOx +HC are 10x-100x higher than when at operating temp. Roughly ~1 min cold idle = ~100 miles of driving. Its a simple device but actually makes a huge impact on air quality. But I've rarely seen any that work properly. Mine did, until I cleaned it and punctured the bladder.

I wonder if you'd have to buy an entire air filter housing to find one? There seems to be quite a few of those out there after engine swaps.

Was wondering the same but I hope not. Spending $$$$ just for a $12 part (once upon a time) seems rediculous. But I'll do it if it isn't too expensive
