i know keys4classics has the blanks and can "cut" the keys. Has anyone had experience 3d printing the key?

Interesting idea! It would not be expensive for a single polished stainless steel binder jetted part that small. However I don't think the resolution would be there for the level of precision needed. It would also be very very difficult to accurately measure the dimple pattern / holes. But like I said...interesting. If someone is willing to fund the experiment I might give it a go.

Seems like you could duplicate keys yourself with a drill press and decent X-Y cross-vise table. I have a couple blanks from my dealer and am tempted to try it.

It might be useful to remember that Benzes of that era used the same dimple keys, so wherever the M-B guys get theirs, we should be able to also.

I expect there is a standard somewhere for dimple x-y spacing. The dimples themselves come in (IIRC) three sizes/depths. I had a key cut here in Honolulu a long time ago; the guy didn't make any crazy exacting measurements, just put my good key into the machine and used it for a pattern to cut the duplicate.
