Vinyl vs leather.

My’73 CS came with vinyl, as a take it or leave it choice. Imported to Canada,would leather have been an option? My understanding is that just over 30 cars were delivered. Would a dealer even place a custom order? Just curious. Thanks

It seems that the two distributors for Canada specified the basketweave vinyl on most coupes but leather was definitely an option and added it to all US coupes.

Thanks Chris. Did most US coupes prefer leather? Was it more expensive?

By 1973 Leather cost $765 as an option and Hoffman specified it on all coupes.

That’s a lot of money in ‘73.

I’d bet there aren’t any left with original leather Thanks once again

My 1st e9 was a (bought in 88) Canadian delivered 72 3.0 CS (Ceylon/black, but tragically repainted maroon by a PO) and guess what... it had vinyl seats. I still remembered how slippery and uncomfortable the vinyl felt

Thanks. I guess I got comfortable with the vinyl over these many years. As the original owner, I guess I must be a purist at heart. Do you still have your CS?

I think the textured vinyl looks great, and is seen so infrequently in restored coupes. I particularly like the black vinyl seats in the 2800CS, and the caramel vinyl from the e3.

I’m learning so much from this forum. I had no idea it was called basketweave. This spring I will redo the foam in the sinking driver seat. The caramel colour with the blue on the e3 is gorgeous.

Technically I don’t think it is called basketweave, but it is similar to a woven herring bone pattern.
