Electric to manual sunroof conversion - anyone do this?

Our 70 2800CS has and electric sunroof which does work fine. But we also have most of the parts from a 72 than was manual including the headliner header piece. We have the crank, one cable, the guides, and even the roof outer panel. So during our restoration, we wonder if the conversion might be worth it considering the price for the electric motors. Used 911 motors are selling for $100 - $200 on ebay which are suppose to fit. Not sure of the interchangeability of the electric to manual drive cables.

Thanks

to me, the only reason to go manual is so you don't have that ugly zipper in the back of the headliner. Otherwise, I may just keep the electric and convert the motor to something a little faster and/or reliable than the sardine can.

I'm wondering if an E28 rear motor can be put there since that's the hot ticket for the windows.

Agree with the ugly zipper, ours is even uglier in that it's broken and won't zip shut. Headliner will be replaced anyhow, but yes would be nice not to have it there. So score 1 for the manual!

I'm flat amazed. I've been on this forum for what seems like ages, got the issues of Art Wegweiser's production back before the 'net when they came in the mail. NO ONE has ever (to my dim recollection) asked this question before. Always something new!
