Another Petri wheel on the block. This is an exceptional 35cm Petri with beautiful chrome and original grip in fantastic condition.

For those of you who have or are building a high-level 02, this would be a great wheel (assuming you like Petri's).

I might be a tad high on this wheel but I've never seen another in this shape (granted, I'm not a wheel collector like @JohnP_02 or @Hans W.), but it's beautiful. Almost makes me want to get an 02...

The meager sum of $850 bucks gets you the wheel and the hub.

No hub cover, horn button, or center retainer ring is included.

This looks very nice and I’m sorely tempted, even though I told my wife yesterday I wouldn’t. Why, because I was sitting there turning the wheel with all my might while sitting still and trying to get out of a parallel space.

I started wondering, if I put a vintage (non-wood) wheel on my 2002 - would I rip the foam and vinyl off?

So, my question Is this - if I used this day to day, how sturdy is it? Would I rip the cover off while cranking on the wheel?

Of course, I don’t really drive it everyday. But...

I do think 35CM is functionally smaller than I’d like on a manual steering call. But, the look is right. Very right.

Rip the cover off? You better lay off the Wheaties and Spinach.

I highly doubt you'd harm the cover in any way, short of you potentially tearing it with your teeth in a head on collision.

Of course you could buy it, not tell the wife and test it yourself...;)

I should add part of the reason I said all this - 1. I’ve read several times people talk about their covers moving. 2. It’s nearly 50 years old. Foam depredations is certainly possible.

thanks for the info. Sounds solid.

@AustinOski - No worries, I was just razzing you ;) They are old wheels so yes, I imagine they can get messed up somehow. This one is very solid with a very tight foam grip. The foam grip itself is a bit firmer than the 38 Petri I had.

On the issue of diameter, I don't see the issue with a small wheel on an 02. I've had 35cm Momo's on my 911's with 9 inch wheels and soft tires up front and yes, grocery store pking lots aren't great but the payoff on back roads more than makes up for it. I suppose it's how you drive but Austin has some magnificent back roads!

What a gorgeous wheel
I am Very tempted and my 2002 will be extremely happy I am sure with it
The current steering wheel on my 2002 is also 35mm but the looks will be another game IMHO

Beautiful level of patina, right there and that wheel is beautiful. The Petri would look fantastic in that car and is very "correct" but to be honest, you could throw anything in that car and it would look great!

Lovely wheel, but man, 35cm on a manual steer 2002?

I have a 35cm on my e9 now, with my beautiful 38cm in the wrapper. Too nice to put on my 2002.

@tferrer - The look/size of the 36CM Nardi I have is great. On the road, also great. Turns are quick. It’s just the parking thing.

Funny, I just bought that 40CM and mentioned a smaller wheel for one of the 2002’s and all sorts of people said it was a bad idea.

This is definitely a YMMV situation. Still considering it. But, I know I’d better make up my mind soon!
