Production of plastic under the seat

Hi guys,

I have done some research and we would be able to produce replacement part for plastic under the seat (check photo) in stainless steel with some spacers due to thinner produced parts.

With drawings, welding, polishing and other labour cost, the price of set for car (2 pairs - 4 parts) would be around 300 USD + shipping (around 40-45 USD depending on weight).

I have not produced any sample yet. It is not "worth" doing it for a few sets so before I start I would like to ask how many of you guys would be interested.

The ones interested can write here so I make a list of interested members then I can start working on it.

I would be interested, but I'd like to see some details (ideas perhaps only for now) on the technical execution, especially on how you are making the large curve and what you are doing wrt the cross section shape.

can someone post a photo of them installed? maybe my car is missing them
to make them you would cutout the top and weld on the sides, well that is how a guy made a motorcycle chain guard for me
 
FYI - You can cut a full length spacer out of plastic/aluminum/stainless with waterjet. You can laser cut plastic pretty easily also.

I am working on a waterjet project now that is cutting 80mm aluminum bar stock like a stick of butter.

I doubt you could do four pieces for $300 but don’t overlook CNC’d aluminum. You wouldn’t need to have all of those slots in the underside. That would just be extra machine time.

Laser cut SS from one piece, straight parts would be bent to get the part that is seen on the seat, curve would be welded on, final stage is polishing.

300-350 USD max with some earnings for my time and work already done calculation. I would like to have a set for myself so if I get 5 other members interested I will start working on it. Material would be SS not aluminum.
 
Well, because of this thread, I looked closer and my E3 has these on both sides of each seat but my E9 does not have them on the inside of either seat along the tunnel. Am I actually missing them?

They should be on both sides. BTW, the 74 e9 seats have a metal version, not plastic probably because the seat bottom is longer perhaps.
 
And yet another item missing from my car. Could someone post a photo of the entire seat bottom so those of us non-seat trimmers can see what they look like? And how are they attached to the seat bottoms? Thanks, Drew

I would be in for a set.
 
on stainless steel ones, I would be worried if the radius where the edge meets the leather is sharp
