Here are two auto and one manual shift platform. What are the small holes for? The manual one has small plugs, the others have wood plates on the backside. My platform has no holes.

I believe the small holes are from a PO that didn't know how to reassemble the console and violated it with the trim screws. I've seen this on a coupe.

Yes, I believe so, even if that is not what they are for, that is what they will do based on their position.

The brackets that screw into two small wood blocks on the side panels are far from robust as can be seen in your center consoles where they are bent or loose. Attaching to the front metal bracket that holds the side panels together adds a lot of stability though not OEM.

Except those two wooden blocks are far from the mounts further up the platform and aren’t parallel to the sides, they are crooked.

I doubt if the holes are OEM for 2 reasons:
1. I have an automatic and a stick shift platform, neither one has any of those holes in the front.

2.
In that position they are also in plain sight from the driving position, not sure if a BMW designer in the 70's would accept that.

My manual platform had ONE hole in the same area as yours. I had my re upholsterer remove it when i had it redone. Can it be a coincident that so many have holes there?

Edit.
My bad, I had hole on the other side. towards the front. BTW looks to me you have three automatic platforms there ;) One converted..

Hi Chris
This is mine September 1973 3.0csi and it doesn’t have those holes.
P.s I think so far it’s the ONLY part on the car that I have found which doesn’t have some holes in it :)

My console has four screws in the front. I have no idea why, and they clearly aren’t factory. Do people add them to support the floating wood tray?

I have pics of several other consoles and non had screws in front or back.

All 3 platforms forms were from Automatics, I’ve decided someone added those holes. Still can’t explain those two wood diamonds though.
