I’m basically screwed by the Walloth rocker covers. The opening for the rear jack point is at least a 1/2” off preventing the cover from fitting up to the body! The front one fits OK but not great. I attached the trim strip using M4 bolts and washers as the plastic clips are also junk, a bit too wide on the four prongs. This is the last step to installing door sills and rubber.

Strange thing, as the distance of the lifting points should be thesame in each car. I can measure up on my new W&N covers (7 years in my garage already, could be genuine bmw parts, could be reproduction) what the distance is, and do the same on a banged up alu Csl set I have.

As the lift points are welded by hand onto the sill, perhaps something went wrong there?
The cover is just a single pressing, not much can go wrong with that I'd think.

I just this weekend installed theses same new sill covers - and while a bit of a struggle to get good fitment I did not have the mismatch you are showing! Pics + measurements soon.

Also, I ordered from W&N back on February 6, 2021. As stated above, decent fitment. What did they send you?!

Stretching a tape between the two punch-outs, inside to inside, is 53.5 inches on my good sill covers.
Lastly, in your second picture the punch-out has a small 'wing' on the left side only. Mine are symetrical having that wing on both sides.

Mine were bought in Sep 2020. I had to cut the wing off when I widened the opening, had to do the same with the front but not as much. My brand new least favorite job on a coupe, much worse then armrests lol. Got the driver side on, wanted to use the original rivets but no way can you get it close enough to get a good grab, when removed it had the same cheese had Phillips screws so I just used new which I will paint. Pics are front, rear and side view. Opening from center to center of sill covers is 55.5”, 53.5“ would have been perfect. My paint looks pretty amazing I think.

I feel better now after a shower and a double bourbon and Seven. Five hours of my life that I can’t get back. I will wait to do passenger side on Friday, it has the same wrong spacing and BMW doesn’t care. Kick panels are the final step to complete my mini restoration.

A word of advice, trial fit your rocker covers before paint and before applying Schutz/Chip Guard.

I can read your Social Security card in your wallet.
That's beutiful alignment of gaps as well.
I have a pair of 72 covers handy and they are in that 53. something range. Might be a modular form for the pressing that can be placed incorrectly. Your Phillips secret is safe here.

Dimension as follows of my Walloth parts: 1338 mm from corner of opening to corner of opening.
Depicted in the 2 photo's is the left cover.

Csl alu part has 1346 mm, 8 mm off; not exactly the same dimension.

However, the lift points are welded separately on 2 different panels of the car. Thus tolerances come into play from factory. The rear one is on the outer quarter panel, and the front one is on the sill that end just on the lower A-pillar.
Could they / may have been misplaced if ever restored?

Dear Chris,

we have checked here with a original side wall and the cover and it works fine.
All covers are the same as the tooling never has been changed.

Best regards

Good advice for anyone putting on new/reproduction parts. Test-fit first ANYTHING that did not originally came on the car before stripping the parts off.

Still strange situation. What dimension do you have when you measure the distance? I can't really check as I've replaced the front pick up points with the outer sill, and the rear pickup points are still besides my car, welded on the W&N patch panels. )

Chris,
Do you still have the old covers? If so, how do the gaps compare to the new ones. I have also never heard of such discrepancies in the replacement rocker covers on both ends

Now I am happy I did not replace my originals. I spent the time straightening them out, sanded then 2k satin black, then chipguard then another coat of 2k satin black.
I thought they were originally held by screws and not rivets? Mine had rivets which just didn't seem right.

backwards?

Edit: Looking at the pic they do have the door openings so they obviously can’t go backwards. They are just off by so much!
