not at all, SLS Nylon is super tough
Markos is right, out of the machine is has a grainy texture

Oh, sorry, it is interesting and a bit 'confusing' all the different printers, methods and materials
The rubber and plastic are probably more brittle in my 2000 528, I couldn't get the windshield washer tubes out, they were like glass
 
totally agree Mark ... been trying to learn more about the technical aspects. really intrigued about the metal powders and the possibilities this will offer as well as the different other materials / methods.

the 'only' problem with these things is the cost, I did a smallish, about 4" cube size thing, but hollow, SLS, and it was about $120

To give you perspective, the AC side vents cost about $75 each to print in SLS nylon. I’m guessing a full AC duct would be about $200. This is why I wanted to make just the top portion. That would likely cost about $70. Most members have the ducts, but the exposed part is broken. If you can cut that top part off and epoxu on the new one, it would be an effective repair. One just needs to design the new part to accept the old.

If these were printed in vinyl they should be painted satin black. I have my parts media tumbled (offered by printer). That makes them quite smooth and just light sanding (a few minutes) to prep for paint.

you mention the vents printed in vinyl, is that also SLS?

I have ordered quite a few parts from shape ways, detail plastic and versatile plastic mostly
They offer a 'clean and smooth' for extra cost, but they don't say what it is

I ordered from xomitry but I didn't care for that because I think they just broker out the builds

I think the algorithm for how much they (in general) charge you is heavily weighted by bounding box volume, in addition to actual material volume

SPS vinyl also. I stopped using shapeways when they issued me a cease and desist on my free parts.
