FS: Dished 40cm Petri

Hi,
Im selling my 40cm dished Petri. Wanted to keep it, but i'm starting to like my Alpina wheel so I decided this would have to go to fund some rust repairs at the rear axel mounts (shocking, right?) and rear axle upgrades.

I bought it about two years ago. It came with what the seller told me was a 2002 hub. I welded on a plate and drilled new holes to fit the Petri and sprayed it black with a rattle can. Havent tried it on, so I actually dont know if it fits or not. Anyways, the price is for the wheel, ring and the horn button. And I will send along the hub for free. If it fits, then lucky you The horn button is a Momo or something, not Petri.
The PO had the wheel reupholstered in leather. A very nice job I think. The spokes are nice and very little pitted. Sorry for the fingerprints on the spokes. Didn’t see them before I looked at the photos

The price is 600 USD + actual shipping. Located in Norway.

EDIT: I tested the hub on the car, and it did NOT fit! The price is reduced accordingly. I think I will keep the hub till i find out what car it is for.

You really need to check if it fits as the splines might be VW. It will need a horn contact ring as well.

Not sure I understood this comment?

I can try it on next time I’m with the car. Might be a week or two. But if the hub is for a 2002, it will fit, right? The only marking on it is “69”. And yes, no horn ring. I saw a post on this forum about a universal ring (Porsche?) that fits for approx 20euro. Since it’s a Frankenstein hub anyway…

I think the price is fair even without the unoriginal hub. I might add that the wheel is not used since the reupholstery, not by me, not by the PO. There are some marks after storage though. Visible on photos.

Not to be a downer, but this is a VW Petri wheel with a non-original cover, pitting on the spokes, an aftermarket hub that may or may not work for an e9 or 2002 and a cheap aftermarket horn button. IMO $700 is a pretty hefty price for this set up.

Wow, I have never actually seen a dished Petri. If it's an original Petri must be much rarer than the usual flat ones? or has someone just modified and curved it?

It is original dished Petri 40, but it was only used in Audi & VW, never in BMW.
Of course after hub & horn button change could be used in BMW, but the problem is due it's dished it require for normal use ca. 3-4cm shorter hub, because with standard BMW Petri hub it will be too close to drivers chest.

I looked up your previous adds and I see you know a thing or two about steering wheels Its hard to set a fair price when allmost everyone that sells a Petri removes the price from the ad after it's sold. I'll take your point, -and the new price is 600 USD.

What did you mean about non-original cover? If it's the ring you mean, that is original. The hub har no cover, it's just a thick alu hub. And the wheel is very little pitted. I see it kind of looks like it's pitted on the photos though. I will take some new ones.

As Wladek stated it is a genuine Petri, but it never came original in a BMW. I think it's kind of weird too, it seems to be more rare, but less valuable.

You have a good point here. But guess if the steering wheel is too close or not depends on the driver, like Gransin. You made an extension for him. Very well made i might add! Are you a CNC operator? And what kind of wrinkle paint did you use?


Anyway, this will not be problem on this steeringwheel because i took it to the car to test it. AND IT DID NOT FIT. The PO of the hub told me that he, himself, took it off a 2002. Is it possible that mye E9 has a wrong spline? Or if the the donor 2002 had another spline? He seamed so nice, I dont believe he tricked me. Not on purpose.

Comparing of flat 38cm wheel with dished 40cm doesn't make any sense. Spacer height was 22mm, also Robert have Scheels, that are sort of gamechangers if we talk about driver position, if compare to regular e9 seats.
Painting - was black structure powder coating + satin structure paint. Brand of structure paint almost doesn't make any difference, because of random differences in preparing process like part temperature, outside temperature, spray distance & speed of coating etc..

No, not even close.
I just have some machinery that I acquired for the e9 project & sometimes use it to make something different & train skills, to be able to make more than a regular office worker.
