Hi all

What agreed insurance valuation should a mint , RHD CSI be insured for ???

Car has won many trophies at classic car events in the past and a few years ago at the main bmw car club event at Gaydon

Very much appreciated… for all your advice and comments
 
Is there an argument that the value should reflect the cost to replicate such a car? A project is £20k or thereabouts and then what needs to be spent? I think you could be north of £100k all in. Just my 2p!
 
for starters, there aren't many RHD csi's , What I have found from helping friends sell theirs here in OZ is that buyer's will not really quibble on price if it ticks all the boxes.ie restoration documentation , matching engine etc. Any well informed buyer knows how much these cars cost to build/restore. I would think for insurance purposes based on your description that £100-$120k would not be unreasonable. FWIW,Hagerty's estimate around USD $187k for concourse from memory which I think is similar ballpark .
 
My RHD CS is not concourse but is at a fairly high level. Shannons (Aussie classic insurer) had no issue at $165 AUD. My CSL, not concourse as original interior with all that goes with it just north of 300K AUD but restoration work is close to concourse. I see less of a distinction between CS and CSi these days as all good E9s are hard to get but CSi's are still a little ahead. I'd be thinking around 200k AUD for a good one.

FYI my cars are guarded by shotgun three nights per week. It's up to you to figure which nights :D
 
My clown of a broker and under writer have informed me this morning if I want 100k agreed valuation, then I need to book a home inspection visit of the car with one of their registered vehicle inspectors from a certain website

I spoke to Mr X this after noon and he had no clue what a bmw E9 is and asked me to supply him with information about my E9 and email him csi cars sold for 100k, the figure I am requesting for agreed valuation

I think I have just spoken to the village idiot…

This was my case as well when I tried to come up with an agreed valuation.
They had no clue what an E9 was, and I had to provide ALL the information to them to prove the value.
In the end they agreed to the value I had in mind (70k€) but the price for the insurance was ridiculous, after all, the car sits in a locked garage, sees only clear and sunny days, and I agreed to very small limit of 3000km/year and no drivers under 25. They wanted over 3000€/year to insure it! :D

For comparison, a brand new 2022 BMW 530E costs around 70k€ over here, if I agreed to the same things as above but upped the limit to 30000km/year I can insure it for 850€/year.

Makes no sense.
 
I wonder if there is any mileage in the argument that the cars are so rare that they are shipped across the globe - certainly the best and/or rarest, so perhaps that allows comparison with prices worldwide - it appears to me that the best examples in the US are making more that £100k equivalent. Of course there are counter arguments that the RHD market is smaller, and perhaps that adversely affects prices?
