Have a very nice 73 3.0 coupe 4 speed. The outer lens of the driver's side tail light is cracked and missing pieces.

Quick, background on the car. I acquired this car from someone who paid top top dollar for it on BAT. Its really a lovely car. He's just not a vintage car guy and
we made a deal on the car no where near what he paid. Like I said its a very very nice. It was missing a bunch of trim items I have patiently sourced over the last 6 months.
There were some mechanical jobs to do too. All of which were pretty straight forward. Replaced water pump, some suspension items, fixed the window regulators. Clean up some wiring, blah blah blah, nothing that was heavy lifting. As soon as the rain stops, I'll shoot a few pics and post em up. So.....

I have been patiently waiting for several months to find one on eBay, with limited luck. I picked up an entire assembly for a reasonable price
several months ago. The problem is the chrome is badly pitted and the lens I need has a crack, although the entire lens is there.

My dilemma is this.... Do I try and remove the lens for the poor condition housing and then somehow put it in the excellent housing that's currently on the car.
I own a Dremel tool and Dremel soldering tool. I could give it a whirl. The lens does have a hair line crack, and I am sure it will split in two clean piece when I remove it. Or do I just wait wait wait for one to come up on the market of equal quality as the one that I already own.

Did I read that someone where makes the lenses? Or entire assemblies?

Thanks!

I think most people rechrome the frames and buy replacement lenses from @Stan. You'll probably want to do both sides so they match. New complete units when found are very expensive. There are several threads on lens replacement techniques. Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for the heads up. I am new here. How do I get in contact with @Stan ??? I have an excellent chrome housing. I bought the other just for the lens I needed but it tunred out the lens as a crack. I am sure it will split in two if I attempt to take it out.

Welcome! You sound like a great negotiator. :)

Chroming is quite expensive, and if you don't already have a source its tough to find a good one. I'd use the frames you have then figure out sourcing for plastic parts.

Thanks. I have a chrome frame in excellent condition. I am in need of the lenses.
