Hi All,

I am new to this forum, my father owns a BMW 3.0 CS 1974. It has been in the mechanics for almost 20 years (partly because my dad suffered a stroke and partly because I was living abroad).

So I am trying to help him repair it. It is difficult for me to find the parts mainly because it is a bit difficult to translate from Spanish to English what the mechanic tells me it needs. So far I have made this list of parts to the best of my abilities. I tried the website classic.com but they no longer provide the service.
I need websites where I can ask for quotes for these parts ideally new parts. Could anybody guide me a bit?

The car details are as follows
We are looking to restore our family BMW 3.0 C.S E9

Serial Number: 2210437
Series 3.0 CS
Bodywork: Coupe
Model 3.0 CS
Version: ECE
Direction: Left
year: 1974
Manual transmission
Production month: All

The parts we are looking for are:
1) Complete front bumper (European)
2) Complete rear bumper (European)
3) Electric branch (all electric cables)
4) 4 front headlights.
5) indicator light Right
6) Indicator Light Left
7) Right door lock
8) Left door lock
9) Rear trunk lock.
10) Ignition Switch (engine)
11) Black plastic hood grill set Left and Right
12) BMW Left and right side emblems
13) BMW Bonnet and trunk emblem
14) 4 Bmw Chrome Hub Cap 14” Alloy Wheels and 4 BMW Emblems
15) Bearing shell kit for 6-cylinder engine.
16) Piston rings 12
17) Gaskets for 6-cylinder engine.

I will be very grateful.
Cristina

Hi Cristina - There is no single place to go to acquire parts for our cars. We have complied a list of vendors we use to buy parts here: https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/what-are-the-top-sources-for-parts-and-service.33895/

The vendor with the most complete inventory of available parts is probably Walloth + Nesch (Germany) - www.wallothnesch.com/

However, many of the parts you seek are not available new. By way of example, nobody makes and sells the various wiring harnesses for our cars.

For parts that are not available new, this forum is probably your best source. I recommend first looking at which part you can buy new from vendors, and then seeking from this forum the parts you cannot find. Having said that, nobody is going to compile a quote for you from multiple sources. You will need to do that yourself.

Also, bearings and piston rings are bought based upon the current engine specs, your machinist needs to determine if you need second oversized rings for example.

There are 2 forum members in Colombia and one in El Salvador.
You need to converse with them.

Thank you Chris, for taking the time to respond, I just had a look at this page and it seems really good, thank you! It is in English and I can actually see pictures of the parts. I will do what you suggested, first look for what I can find new and then search for the rest.
So there is not anywhere I could buy the wiring harnesses? thank you for proving the proper name by the way. The person who repaired the floor for some reason I do not understand tear up all the cables, ALL of them. We need to put all the wiring first.

Thank you,

You might also try a WTB (want to buy) post in the "parts" heading on this forum for some of your needs...the harness, bumpers, etc. that are not going to be available new.
SFDon always offers good advice...by the way.

Best bet for wiring is to find an old car that's parting out.

What wiring do you need? ALL OF IT? Or just the engine wiring? Or the dash wiring, or ????

Cristina - Our cars have more than one wiring harness. The wiring for the gauges in the dash, for the radio, and for the air conditioning, to provide a couple of examples, are separate harnesses from the main harness. You might be able to salvage one or more of these.

I was not aware of the autosparks vendor referenced above; that may be a good option for the main harness. And if you contact them, you may want to ask if their harness is just the main harness, or is perhaps more complete. Ask specifically about the wiring for the dash gauges and lights. If that is part of their harness, then it is a more complete setup.

Autosparks does the whole thing, @OCCoupe used one recently. However, I wonder if they realize that the facelift/series II coupes from 9/73 have a different harness? Some examples: wire gauge increased on some areas, added low beam relay, turn signal now on left of column with wiper function/speed operation changed, defrost switch on console, window motors changed and circuit breakers added, etc.

Saw Autosparks on an episode of Wheeler Dealer several years ago. Interesting process. Entirely hand-made.

I was in mass production factory and still many of steps are hand made. Womans can do miracles which for many years or decades can't be replaced by any robot. :) This gives me a hope to be honest.

So there are big tables with sticks and cables are routed and after isolated by man's hands. ... but for sure some will used robots for simple parts.
