Hi , is there an alternative oil filter that I can install so the oil change doesn't become so messy ....

Depending on whether or not your oil filter has a check valve in the filter body you will want a filter similarly equipped. The top-bolt filters came with and without check valves.

Although I use top bolt filters, it may be worth noting that there are spin on filter adapters, too.

The adapter bushing is
Ireland's threaded adapter bushing shown, is for a 4" canister as can be noted by the two different thread sizes. I may still have one that will work with a 3.5" bottom bolted canAlthough I use top bolt filters, it may be worth noting that there are spin on filter adapters, too.
