Glas 3000

I was blown away when he pulled up in the 'Glaserati' as the 3000 GT is commonly called. he drove it straight from the auction.

a very cool car

Another Pietra Frua design. This one is strange as it’s a Glas badged as a BMW yet has the Glas V8 with triple Solexes & Glas running gear.

I let Rey know about Uwe Gusson pronounced (Oovay Goosen) and the Glas Club in Germany.

The more I look at this car... to me....it is more of a mix of French and Italian styling on the exterior, with late 60's German interior...just my $.02 cents...anyone else feel that way? Not bad in any way, just would never think of it as a BMW. Especially with the belt-driven overhead cam V8.

I was very surprised to see this car roll up. I told my brother in law "wow two in one day" We had just drooled over it at Mecum and had been in the tent when it sold. I am a bit slow and it took me a minute to realize that Rey had just purchased it!

BMW bought Glas for factory capacity and the 3000 was discontinued probably so as to not compete with the 2800CS. The Glas 1300 and 1700 became the BMW 1600 with m10 mechanicals and subframes. So the sort answer is the badge.

Very cool car indeed. Lots of good information on Frua designed production cars and “one offs“ on
Corrozzieri-Italiani.com

Including this tidbit regarding the 3000 V8:

“The bodywork was built by hand, with moving parts such as the doors and bonnets as well as the chrome trim stripe at top of the grille, being made to fit each individual body. All such parts thus carry the chassis number of each car and mean that they are not directly interchangeable between cars.”

Wonder if that was still the case after BMW took over?
