i wonder what our friend @BMW Pete knows about this car.

The paint doesn’t make much sense to me. It is a historic racer that had a livery at that time. Someone subsequently painted with a clear Alpina ripoff livery. Lots of folks do that with their Alpina tribute cars, but this car was never an Alpina and doesn’t showcase any Alpina logos currently. I like the machine and the fact that it is an old racer, but the paint job doesn’t compute.

From the paintjob of the white car... it looks a little bit like a Schnitzer 2800 CS. It also have some Schnitzer mag wheels on the rear axle.

In these days it was cheaper to buy the car directly from BMW for importing company, than direct delivery to Schnitzer or ALPINA without this notice in the BMW documents.

My ALPINA was exported to Austria, from the BMW documents.
But it arrived directly after production at ALPINA and stayed there for another 3 months before final livery to Austria. Maybe this procedure has also been used to fullfill emisseion standards ;-)

Not really cheap, but with a modest racing history, not bad... and keep in mind that refreshing it for track duty will cost some dosh.

Still cheaper than building a tribute car.

Agreed, still cheaper than starting from scratch, plus it has legit history in Europe.

Lotsa interesting bits in this kit: Neat old MOMO wheel, the junk in the trunk, interesting intake manifolds (haven't seen those before). Wheels don't look like 2-pcs (I have a similar set w/ fake bolts). I definitely would inquire as to which 5spd it has? (a period Euro racer might have a C/R: so ZF or Getrag?). Likely a 3.64 LSD (11/40) with plumbing. Certainly there's certainly room for some 're-imagination' of the dash/cockpit and you could always change the livery after the first whack on the track.

Someone go poke it with a stick and ask what kinda numbers the motor is making (220-230 rwhp?) and it's overall weight (2800-2900lbs?)

Inquiring minds want to know ;)
