Hi all -

I have brake lights that work intermittently (but mostly not at all) and backup lights don't work at all. I have checked all the fuses and updated most of them. Bulbs are all good. Parking lights, turn signals and license plate lights are all working.

I had them briefly working (split second) and then nothing. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Check the brake light switch attached to the pedal linkage for loose/out of adjustment or breaking. Check the transmisson reverse switch, you can disconnect the 2 wires from the switch and jump them to see if the lights come on (turn the key on), if they do then it's a bad switch. You can also put a volt meter with continuity check across the switch tabs, put it in reverse, and see if it buzzes.

Appreciate the input. I'll dig in and let you know.

Grouning problem would be my guess. The ground screw near the rear lights (in between them in my '73 EU car) sits in the floor panel, just behind the license plate; it tends to rust well in that general area.
If the surrounding of the screw is rusty; this would be what you get.
