What is your thought on the 2800 vs 3.0 for reliability, power, beauty all things being equal on a semi restored vehicles 7 out of 10 on scale.
are there major differences in body, engine, electronics, controls, etc. which would you buy?
thanks

the FAQ has the definitive list - provided by our friend @HB Chris

to answer your question quickly - they are pretty equal
1. the body is the same
2. the interior is the same, the '74 has different seats
3. the main difference is that the stock 2800cs has non-vented front discs and rear drum brakes. at this point in time, a good number of 2800cs have been converted to vented discs front + rear
4. there is an engine displacement difference, but power is basically the same on the stock motors. the 2800cs has higher compression and is perhaps revs more freely.
5. the 2800cs is often a lower price - for no explicable / real reason ... other than perception from the under-informed.

at this point in time, its all about how well the coupe has been cared for - rust avoided or remediated. most cars have been repainted by now ... so its all about the current condition. the best advice is to buy the best coupe you can afford ... the most expensive e9 is the one that you have to do a lot of rust remediation on, followed by repainting. interiors and trim are also expensive.

Yup. In my view, the differences you ask about are trivial, and there is no such thing as "all things being equal." Rust is very expensive to fix; my primary concern was finding a car with the smallest amount of rust possible. Second, incomplete cars and ratty cars have become more expensive as parts become rare. Mechanical things can be fixed pretty readily. Buy the best coupe you can find, period.

Is it also true that the 2800 came with LSD? Mine still has it.

When I started looking for an E9... I was fixated on getting a 3.0 CS or CSi....
I wanted the bigger engine and brakes and... all the later bells and whistles.

So - I ended up with a 2800CS.
LOL

Condition condition condition.

The differences are really not worth worrying about. 99% of the issue is finding the car in the best shape you can. The differences are (looking back now) very trivial - as I recollect on what I was doing when I started my Coupe search in the early 2000's.
