We lost another of our Giants in the music world today. Seems to be happening all too often, but Quincy Jones passed away at the age of 91. I must say his influence on my taste and appreciation of Jazz and later Smooth Jazz is enormous. I am very grateful. it lead to a chance meeting with Herbie Hancock in Montreal when I was too young to order alcohol at the Jazz Bar, but stayed for all 3 sets and was hooked on Jazz for life! Even had a conversation that I will remember forever.
First, in all of Q's amazing hits for me, was "Killer Joe" from his Walking In Space album. Here is a live version that shows his involvement and effects on the finished sound that made him such a force in his genre and many others. Miss you Q. Mike

Once upon a time, there used to be low power radio stations all over the US. They have now been outlawed, as the precious spectrum has been allocated to other things. Having spent all my money on stereo equipment, I used to listen to the station that students at UW-Milwaukee would use to broadcast one hour shows that they produced. (And after midnight, it was Ron Cuzner's Dark Side). One of the student used to do entire shows on particular musicians - Ron Carter on bass with Miles Davis, Freddy Hubbard and Roberta Flack, for example.

I discovered Quincy Jones through a show one of the students did on Steve Gadd - still one of my favorite drummers. Sounds and Stuff Like That is an amazing album, with an unbelievable collection of musicians - Stevie Wonder, Chaka Kahn, Herbie Hancock, Michael McDonald, Luther Vandross, Pattie Austin, Michael Brecker, and I'm sure I'm missing a handful of others:

Mike you got that right - Killer Joe was the first thing I thought of. Got it on my favorite jazz playlist with some Herbie Hancock, Miles and several others
