Euro 1972 BMW 3.0CSL on BaT at No Reserve

It’s the real deal and it’s getting noticed. I’m going to go over Terry”s car. It needs a lot of care but it seems like a great start for a carb CSL. I’m guessing 145k but Wes is probably right

Right there with e911 that there is a 200k* restoration ahead of it to make it right and that puts it above or near the top of the market. But it’s probably worth doing … it’s a carb CSL

Those black fender tops scare me. The addition of a/c is a bit odd

@rsporsche I also noticed the black on top of the fenders with the orange protruding through. Technically a correct repaint should have the entire space in red? I also wonder when the car was painted red, and if it has been repainted just once or twice?

The CSL had 440 lb of weight savings. It looks like the old style compressor added 439 lbs.........
The collector car market has the second Carb CSL on BaT as a no-reserve auction.

Finally starting to move as it crossed the 24 hour mark. Now 80.

Has potential… lots and lots of comments. Most of them very helpful and informative.

This auction is fun to follow... so far. :)
There are many comments providing interesting details on early CSL's and the seller seems like he is doing his best to get everyone what is needed.
Should be fun to see close out tomorrow.

This is me beening petty, but to me when you have a car like this I would spend a bit more time on the little things, like not haveing the wheel weights on the outside of the wheel, and the mismatched lug nuts in picture 115 and the wierd trunk pictures 187,188
This car needs $100,000 to fix the little things and maybe $200,000 to finish.
Any work done on this car should be almost perfect. Good car for Mike Burger to manage.
Too rare to screw up.

Buyer can send it to Tassie :) I'll do all the big jobs for 100K USD. That's like a gazillion Australian dollars at present exchange rate.

Really nice. Thought it was gonna go low there for a minute....

I think that's a nice price given the market.

$170,500 when you add the buyer’s commission fee.
Wow.
A rising auction lifts all Veronas! My engine bay looks the same or better :).
I am a cash person, hope 170k$ fit in my leather pouch...

Congratulations to the winner of the auction.
I read Don’s sage comment of $100k-$200k USD to restore this correctly and walked away from the auction. :)

Arde, your engine compartment looks great.

This looks to be a CSL that (were it in my garage) - I would keep in great mechanical shape, and just drive it. I'd be happy to.
Kevin

You are correct - the new owner is sympathetic to its originality and will be doing almost as you mention with subtle clean up here and there, no doubt.

The idea of taking an original piece - say a piece with paint overspill on - and clean it up and put it back, what a wonderful exercise, for me would be so therapeutic.

I am envious in the nicest way possioble, lucky owner
