I recently happened to come across one at a shop in Dubai - thought I would share in case somebody is interested

They don’t speak Portuguese so I have no idea what they say!

I don’t know if I have ever gotten a review- they pick up their car and they are happy!

Jose, I am sorry but I keep counting 6 fins wherever I look. Can sbdy please confirm what they see?

I have reached out to the vendor to have them count and confirm

It is actually a vinyl covered foam part; it seems to be original to some cars: here's an pic from the BMW own tech manuals (see black and white grainy image below) :
Here's the image from the tech files of the E3 part where you can just see the top opening that is closed off.
It's an e3 part as it has at the bottom an edge of ~10mm towards the engine + a flap with three lips pulled through. E9 doesn’t have either of them.




Also note that the pic below post appears to have 6 slats (horizontal fins) as we are looking at it from the backside. However when you look at the front, then you see 7 horizontal slats visible because in the E3 variant, the top vent opening is closed from the back. So...
E3 has 7 openings and 7 fins when viewed from the front.
E9 also have 7 openings, but 6 fins when viewed from the front.
That is why counting fins is confusing; it needs also the info if you're looking from back side or front side.

I always use the direction of the bottom edge of the panel to identify e3/E9: pointing to engine is E3, pointing to gearshift is E9.



Also The e9 face plate ends in a simple vertical plane, with a ~10 mm lip at the bottom, pointing towards the rear of the car; going under the shift console. see the link below from Markos Repro parts.
The lower edge of an E3 part folds forward, not backwards as E9.

confusion comes from this:

I unfortunately had to learn this the hard way because when I first got the car, I went nuts buying stuff from eBay that I thought was for the e9, so now I have a lot of stuff including a facia plate from an e3
 
Even it works now- soon it won’t.
