Guys, on a bit of a wing and a prayer here. Moderators, please remove if not appropriate as it's not E9 (is period BMW though :-) )

Starting to do the last strokes on a multi-year restoration on my 2002 Turbo (chassis number 1) and I am missing the front half of the exhaust BMW part number 18 12 1 245 278. Everywhere I look, it is NLA and so that wing and a prayer is - does anybody have one stashed away in their garage?

Thanks

Pete

You talk with Paul Cain who has the Canadian turbo connection?
That fellow up there has a dozen of them? And selling them….

Thank you Lucas - much appreciated

Pete,

Hope you are doing well... You can try calling Sean Casey at Casey Motorsports in Petaluma. Mention you know me from the board and he will charge you double. No just kidding, he may or not remember me, I haven't seen him in a while but was a childhood friend. He has a stash of Turbo stuff. If he doesn't have it, he probably knows a source. Good luck - Shane Cummings

Tell him "the guy with the ugly yellow 2002 sent you." That's when I owned my '76 Golf BMW 2002.

He was one of my first reach outs, sadly no luck - but thank you for the heads up.

Doing well thank you, hope the same with you

Best

Do you have the chassis No. 1? Wow!!
Cool !!
I understand that there were some pre-production cars with some differences.

I figured you probably knew him but I don't like assuming things, he is a cool, mellow dude. This must be a rare piece if you and he are having a hard time finding it. Good luck, you will find one, when you do, let us know. Can't wait to see some pics of the Turbo #1, can you post a few on here when complete? It would be much appreciated!

its a beautiful car ... hopefully Pete doesn't mind me posting a picture that i took a month ago. i remember the first one i saw, parked on the side of a mountain road east of Florence, Italy in 1984. it was also chamonix

Yes I do and thank you

The first few had some small differences. I haven't seen all 12 produced in 1973, but I understand the first six had subtle differences, for instance, mine has white spoiler, hand-built air box, and a few other things that distinguish it from the production cars that really started in 74.

As can be seen in Scott's picture, and as many here already know (apologies for repeating), my dream is to acquire the best street and race cars I can (not always possible) of the Motorsport cars I love. Turbo number 1 is my street 2002 and the Alpina Werks car behind, which is 95% original and the only one left from Alpina's very first race team, is my race 2002.

For anybody interested. This Alpina is going to the Pebble Beach Concours this year and will be the first Alpina ever to be judged on the lawn at PB

Hi Lucas

Sadly, wrote to them all and all do not have the part. saying it's NLA.

I always write first before ordering on any website for a part that is tough to find. It can become a lesson in frustration otherwise

Appreciate the heads up though

Pete

Hello Sir.

I am sorry that it turned out that despite the information on the store's website, they do not have them physically. This is a common situation lately...

I still have a few options for this section of the exhaust system for 2002.
Please give me a day or two and I think I will be able to help you with this topic.

Best regards.

Can the part you need be used but in good condition, or does it have to be new?

Pete,

Your most likely aware that Super Sprint is producing a complete exhaust for the Turbo including the down pipe from the turbocharger?

(the above is pictured w/o a center resonator)

(this resonator center section fits the down pipe to the rear muffler)

I have some of this in stock, and on order. When it is all here I'll happlity compare these parts to my own Turbo exhaust.

Mario L.
