I'm having a bit of a tool fetisch, not only garage tools, but also the e9 equipment.

So, I my quest for a perfect set I'm scavenging bits and pieces together.

Just noticed today that there actually some differences in the black foam piece in the tray:

In the pics you see (my newest addition - I am over the moon!), an almost complete tray, and look carefully at the position of the lightbulbs and torpedo fuses: there's 2 spaces for the larger type bulbs and just 5 fuses.

In the other toolbox, there is just space for one large bulb, and there's space for 6 torpedo fuses.

A difference in US vs European?

We have a 1970 2800cs. The original tray looks identical to Chris’s. See our first photo.
My January 1970 2800 has the first one below, my 73 3.0CS has the current BMW toolbox from Walloth in the second pic. I have updated the Tools FAQ.

The first plc is the original tray of our 1970 2800cs. The second pic is the new tray we purchased early this year from BMW. These seem to be identical to Chris’s two pics.
