For a Petri

say what??? i have 2 wheels that both have the piece that fits into the opening at the bottom of the wheel. to sit on the shaft, it would have to be splined ... and they are smooth.

....this shows why it should sit in that position...

You wouldn´t be able to adjust the clearance at the turn indicator switch if it was installed on the wheel

I looked up the same image in my old (german) blue books. Like @TomHom shows above, it states "Ruckstellnocken abziehen" which is "Pull off the cancelling ring". Clearly press fit.
Mind you, the steering wheel in the blue books are the std bus wheels.

Which doesn't exclude that in a Petri the mounting can be different.

It should fit the column, regardless of the hub. The cancellation adjustment is as @TomHom shows in the blue book. I finally adjusted mine recently and the procedure works, the signals cancel consistently now.

The hub has a ridge on top into which the canceller presses itself when the wheel is tightened to the column, therefore often found attached to the hub. For LHD cars, the canceller should be at the 3o’clock position

except the 1974+ cars, they mount at the 9:00 position since the turn signal is on the left hand side. @Keshav that's why i assumed it was pressed in - every wheel i have take off has had it pressed in.
