Some questions about my engine

I will be listing my CSL for sale in the near future. But before I do, I would like some feedback on the car's engine so I avoid misleading a potential buyer.
The car is a 3.0CSL city pack, but when I took it over, a previous owner had installed a 3.5 liter block. I wanted to return it to 3003cc, but it was impossible to find the original one.
However, I found another engine, which is in the car now.
This one was marked with X.......X where the engine number is usually stamped. Previously, this was supposedly the method used by the BMW factory to mark replacement engines. To add even more confusion, it has pistons with a diameter of 89.22mm and a stroke of 84mm. This makes a displacement of 3.15l.
According to the Blue Book, the piston at 89.22mm is a B piston, whatever that means.
The car is really nimble to drive, more fun than my 2800CS with 3.2l L-jetronic. So there is nothing to complain about
There were few CSLs that had the 3.15l engine, so it might be a good selling point even if it is not the original engine. Some opinions, anyone?

Show us a pic of the intake side of the block..

The stroke is the question..

Got this pics on my laptop. I measured the stroke to be 84mm by using a steel wire into the spark plug hole. Not the most exact method but it gives a good indication I think.

Yeah - so extremely nice.

Get rid of those Swedish blue hose clamps!

My guess is 3.2 liter engine

OK, so then I conclude that calculations based on piston diameter with manufacturing tolerance B (89.22mm) and stroke (84mm) giving a total volume of 3.15L AKA 3.2L are correct.

Thanks Chris and Don

(BTW, the Swedish blue clamp are long gone) :)

Hi, that's Partik. The x x should be correct. In addition there should be a "315 A ......" at the area where the zuylinder head ends. Please have a look

Hi, I found a photo and the area seems to be stamped with "30 E D A"??

Hi Henrik
I am interested in the small air filter that you have on the air by pass / cold start valve
Do you have details such as manufacturer or part numbers for the filter ?
I have my original filter on my 3.0 csi , but I should probably replace it with a new one.
Thanks

Hi, hm, looks differently to mine. My Bat 1 got an BMW exchange engine long ago in the 80th I guess, exactly marked like I have shown...Not sure about this code.

I dont have a master in cryptography o_Oso it dosent make any sense to me either. 30 are probably the volume, but it does not match the bore and stroke.

The air filter is bought from a local company, but they are available on Ebay, Temu, Amazon etc. in many different shapes an sizes. Probably in a more discrete color also:cool:
