I pre-ordered a copy in Nov 2024. It was supposed to be out middle of 2025.
In May of 2025 - I received this in email....

The new publication date is 31 March 2026.

This book retraces the origin of the CSL program through Alpina and the subsequent further developments done bei BMW Motorsport, both street and racing, backed up by many copies of the original documents and pictures, many of which were not accessible to the public up to now... A real treat for any CSL buff.

Another delay... this time the end of 2026....

Dear BMW enthusiasts,



We would like to share an update on the current status of our book project “BMW 3.0 CSL”.



The publication was originally scheduled for March 2026. After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone the release to December 2026.



The reason is a welcome — albeit challenging — development: over the past months, new photographs, data, documents, and insights have become available that were not accessible at the time of our initial planning. Given our ambition to create a definitive reference work, these findings cannot be ignored. They affect not only the racing chapters, but also numerous details concerning the road cars.



The overall structure of the book is largely complete. At present, we are working closely with acknowledged specialists to further refine the content, ensuring the highest possible level of accuracy, and incorporating all relevant information available to us today.



Our objective remains unchanged: to document the BMW 3.0 CSL as comprehensively, thoroughly, and precisely as possible, based on the most complete body of knowledge and sources currently available. The additional time allows us to integrate these new findings with the care they deserve and to review and fine-tune the entire book in detail once more.



We are confident that this decision ultimately benefits the book — and therefore you, the readers — resulting in an even higher-quality, more authoritative, and long-term relevant reference work.

Man, are they carving this in stone - didn't they hear about AI yet, it would do the work in minutes (according to my boss) ?

I am not surprised at the delay, I dont envy them their task. It is a very complex subject having already done this research myself, only into the race-cars. A lot of things were not as they might appear which takes many hours of work to unravel. Many books written on this subject relied on memories, documents that proved to be wrong. And race teams were not known for their ability to follow rules....

Yes, unfortunately, I have not seen the whole book, but I have seen excerpts translated.

I, like I am sure some others, did speak with the author initially, but I found him, like many authors, unwilling to take actual irrefutable evidence as against what he had found out or been told.

I am sure most of it will be accurate and an interesting read, but it will not be the CSL bible some of us were hoping for.
