Since 45 years I own a plymouth Vaillant Sport Coupé 6 cilinders manual shift

Update: last week I removed the e9 parts from the hood trunk and roof from the Plymouth. Cleaned the car. Removed the gas tank with 40 year old gasoline. I found “classic industrie” site. Amazing to see how cheap the spare parts are compared to our e9 parts. New tank for only $120 !! Maybe it turns out to be twice due to shipping and taxes.

The US auto makers operate under a different business model than BMW. They freely give away the ability to manufacture parts for their old cars, relieving themselves from the need to attempt to profitably make old parts. GM even went as far as to transfer dies for stamping fenders to third party manufacturers. Overall, this results in lots of competition, and substantially lower parts prices.

BMW does not do this; they protect their parts as component parts of the IP of their cars. In general, a manufacturer cannot just take up manufacturing e9 parts in the US because BMW will come after you if you do.

When I fill my e9 tank - 70 liters - it cost $230! For that price I could buy 2 new galvanised steel tank for my Plymouth. :-(
