Rim specs, E9 2800cs - HELP

Hi guys, I have already read a couple of threads regarding this theme but I still don't have enough data to proceed.
The plan is to airride my 1969 2800CS and my wish is to go with 17" or 18" BBS or similar rims.
I am posting Mikes Stanceworks E9 with deepdish BBS rims which I think are a perfect match for this car... Does anyone know the correct wheelspecs?

If not, I am open to your suggestions, what are you running with air or without air... suggest away, feel free to shoot my airride plan down - I am still not 100% sure

Car will ride like crap in those rubber band tires. Going from 14 inch to 16 is quite noticeable. 18 would be awful.

i was thinking the exact same thing. 16" wheels use 50 + 55 series tires. 17" use 40 + 45 series tires ... i presume that 18" use 30 + 35 series tires. i have owned + driven Porsche + Audi with 30 + 35 series tires and a minor bump in the road is quite painful ... a pothole down right hurts ... and it doesn't take much to lose a filling in your teeth. the 18" tire size that might work on the rear is 245 / 35 - 18 ... that being said, i see no way that a 245 anything would fit on the front unless something significant was done as the minimum rim width for that size tire is 8" wide. perhaps the 215 / 40 - 18 might fit up front with a 7" wheel. IMHO the question comes up as even if it might fit, why in the world would you want to do it ... other than it might look good to your senses. the reality is having a vehicle slammed to the ground with big wheels tucked in might be possible ... it is not going to be something you enjoy driving. and if for some reason you think it is, you might consider buying some other car.

Alain, sure it won’t ride well but maybe it’s worth it for you to get that look. I think most owners here (myself included) prefer a more classic ride height and some meaty tires. But you do you.

I dont know if any of us will have any real advice on wheel specs because I dont think any members are running that low. Can you reach out to Mike through stanceworks to see what his setup is?

What are your goals? Suspension as low as possible without rubbing? Wheels as wide as possible?

Alain - always a good question and I think a lot of it is determined by taste and ride quality you desire. As others have said, those ultra low profile tires mounted to oversized 17 or 18" will for sure create a bumpy and less supple ride. Are you a show car or driver kinda guy?

For what it's worth, my Coupe came to me with BBS RS005 16X7 with 205/55/ZR16 front and BBS RS006 16X9 with 245/45/ZR16 in the rear. All riding on Pirelli PZero Rosso tires. This size is hard to find by the way, not lots of options. The look is great, and the car rides smoothly over bumps while still providing that classic BBS look such as minivan's. Hope this helps!

Trying to contact Mike… I am thinking about 17” bbs deep dish with a little more meatier tyre - maybe 18” are a bit too much for this car. I am not going to drive the car low, its only for parking, one of the perks of air suspension… I currently have alpina 16” replicas, they are ok but want it to be more on Mikes E9 side… I do agree about the ride stifness with larger rims but this is strictly a weekend car, I have a daily and another oldschool but more useable car… The car is not a show car nor it is a drivers go car… I want to keep it as stock as possible asides from the suspension and slightly bigger bbs (which I think are not too far off the classic look)…

Joking aside, I want to have more options and switch out sets as I feel.. Keeping the 16 Alpinas ofcourse, deep dish BBS set is my next option and maybe a more classic rial 17' as a third set in the future... Always wanted to have 3 sets and change them when I get bored...

Nice 3.0 man... My goal is air because I want to have options with ride height... I dont want it to be too stiff ofcourse... I am keeping my Alpinas aswell ofcourse I want to have multiple sets... I am leaning toward a deep dish BBS 17" more than 18", I think they have that classic flair that suits the car...

P.S. The front being higher than the rear in this stock height configuration really bothers me

Here's my setup that I have ran for 14 or so years, fairly rare staggered Style 5s (17x8s,17x9s) with RS center conversion. Maybe as big as you can go without making a bunch of modifications. I had the front fenders rolled when I had the car painted 22 years ago.

Those are the same wheels Tom (BMWSKI) has on his car in the pic I posted. I've driven Tom's car, and despite what I always say about liking a fat sidewall, Tom's car is not at all harsh.
