Hey folks, well I missed Sharkfest this year for a good reason - my E9 is now physically in the Half Moon Bay area, CA. Anyway, I signed up for Monterey week a few days ago and looking forward to getting back to west coast classic BMW activities going forward starting now! I know Don Lawrence will be there with a few customer cars, but...

Anyone else going to Legends of the Autobahn this August? I will be there Thursday through Sunday morning to participate in Legends and also see my favorite Laguna Seca historic races too on Friday and Saturday. Sunday at Pebble Beach no longer possible for me given retirement and $600 tickets!

I've also cut my week a little short as the Carmel Concours on Tuesday is no longer and the hotel and home rental prices are, jeez, out of control. When I was last in Monterey, our motley crew rented a home in Carmel for $7,000 a week and it seems a Seaside bungalow is $2,000 per night now.

Hoping to see more than a few of my west coast brothers this summer...

I’ll be there with my CS in display class. We’re staying at the Olympia Lodge which is an older very basic hotel in a great location for Pacific Grove events. I also enter the Rotary Pacific Grove Concours on Friday held on Light house Avenue. It’s a fun locals event with a huge variety of non Pebble Beach level cars that the public gets free access to.

Thanks, Norm, didn't know about the Pacific Grove Concours and I do recall the awesome Little Car Show on Wednesday, though. Friday and Saturday will be fully devoted to my favorite historic races at Laguna Seca.

I am debating 60/40 chance I will attend.

Andrew - We will miss you. PS when locals refer to the peninsula they are referring to the region between SF and San Jose.

By the way, a Tuesday replacement “Concours for a Cause” event started at Carmel about two rears ago. We went last year and found it very worthwhile, although we chose a local restaurant for lunch instead of the food and wine experiences offered. Here’s a link to the town’s website.

Carmel started hosting car events again? After the Lambo guys were hooning up Ocean Avenue Tuesday in 2019 everything moved to PG. Is this like a return of Concours on the Avenue in addition to the Hagerty Kickoff on Lighthouse?

Yep, I guest the money for the town outweighed the inconvenience. The Tuesday event is not quite as high end, but is similar to the old Concourse without the celebrity commentaries. Judging is now by the attendees with tokens thrown into buckets by each car. Like the Pacific Grove event, it’s fun to talk to the owners about their car stories. There were just a few supper cars on one side street. A few owners couldn’t resist starting their cars and blasting the exhaust. I hope they are excluded or controlled this year.

I really enjoyed the Carmel by the Sea event. Pulling in to register in 2016, one of my very favorite cars pulled up behind me:
